Sometimes bible verses are literal, and sometimes they are metaphoric, and sometimes they are up to interpretation!! And only YOU know which is which!!

Historical evidence?
The bible isn't historical, the shroud of Turin isn't historical?
Platypus, I would counter that one must accept Christ to be admitted into heaven, sans children, acceptance is religeous

he's not but certainly many, many other christians have. as have other religions. here are the similarities- both have beliefs, both are sure they are right, neither can show they are right, both use threats to increase membership in their groups, bin laden uses violence now, other religions have done the same throughout history.

Im only trying to explain the Catholic position since I have a pretty good understanding of it. The gist of it is:
If Im a nomadic bushman in the Congo, Im never going to learn about Christ and probably lack the intellectual capabilities to see fallacious reasoning in the multiplicity of gods I created when I figured that water, fire, and cougars can seriously harm and must be more powerful than myself. In short Im gonna live and die ignorant.
I, nor the Catholic Church think its particularly just that I dont get eternal bliss just because of my misfortunate luck of being born to Mr. and Mrs. Bushmen.
I can conceive that this person stays in purgatory while he is given all the required info to accept Christ, but Im not willing to accept that this is necessary.

Yeah, Christians dont kill people.
Tell that to all the people in africa with aids because the vatican preaches no birth control. Kids without parents, parents without kids. All because of YOUR belief system, and no practicality.
Please. One of hundreds of not so obvious examples how your morality KILLS.

What about me then?
I have heard the gospel, I am extremely moral and humanitarian, I am good to people and the earth, I volunteer, my family is extremely moral, my only sin is calling people at covers douchemorons - but I totally reject the premise of god and heaven. Am I going to heaven? I want you to answer this.
My only fault is that this god of you speaks in metaphors and riddles, is not apparant, and has created science that tends to disprove his existence. Am I to blame for being educated and a critical thinker and rejecting this god who hides in shadows and talks in mysterious tongues and signs? Is it my fault that god created me to be a critical thinking organism, but then asks me to discard my critical thinking in order to accept his existence? Is it my fault that this god who wants eternal praise from me cant even bother to let me know he exists - or at the very least not create science and technology that makes it more and more confusing every day?
I want you to answer this - because I GUARANTEE you that Paulsy and other christians would say I am going to hell - I am basing this on paulsys writings above about making the right choice. I want to hear you say if I am going to heaven or not.

I'm sorry but that's just idiotic and purely illogical. You are drawing a moral equivalence between a man that actively plans suicide bombings, murdering people by the thousands to a Vatican stance on birth control? Seriously? wow.Tell that to all the people in africa with aids because the vatican preaches no birth control. Kids without parents, parents without kids. Seriously? wow.To answer your first question - YES I AM. In fact, your vatican has killed more people through the "no birth control" in africa than terrorists ever have. No comparison. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Once again - here is a christian who preaches live and let live - but instead somehow is trying to talk about abstinence in africa. Are you kidding?
And yes, the world would be 100 times better without religion and with more practicality.

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." - Richard Dawkins
"A God who kept tinkering with the universe was absurd; a God who interfered with human freedom and creativity was tyrant. If God is seen as a self in a world of his own, an ego that relates to a thought, a cause separate from its effect. he becomes a being, not Being itself. An omnipotent, all-knowing tyrant is not so different from earthly dictators who make everything and everybody mere cogs in the machine which they controlled. An atheism that rejects such a God is amply justified." - Karen Armstrong
"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen Roberts
"You do not need the Bible to justify love, but no better tool has been invented to justify hate." - Richard A. Weatherwax
"History teaches us that no other cause has brought more death than the word of god." - Giulian Buzila
"Atheism is a non-prophet organization." - George Carlin
"We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further." - Richard Dawkins
"When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion." - Robert Pirsig
