Let me help a little on this one. I used to work in casinos. They asked for the information because of Regulation 6A. It is a money laundering regulation.
They need to ask these questions on anyone who cashes a total of more than 10,000 in a 24 hour period. They are also required to gather information on anyone making cash transactions of over 2,000. Most of the time all they do is write down your appearance and the time in the gaming log (eye in the sky will be used to verify). If you are a known customer, they will write down your name and not ask you for information.
Under Regulation 6A they are not allowed to tell you why they are asking for the information. If you ask why and the clerk tells you, he will be suspended and the casino will be fined if the Feds fined out.
It isn't a casino conspiracy. It is your Government in action. This was done as part of the drug war because all of the LA gangs would go to Vegas and launder their money.
