Van - I'm very interested to know how much a vegetarian diet costs you on average?
Good question.
In the F'd up upside down USA food price structure pyramid - healthy foods cost more than sh*t for you foods.
A pound of hamburger costs 3 bucks. But a pound of lettuce or apples cost 5 bucks.
But like all things in life, there are short term costs and longterm costs. Things like medical bills come back to save you money.
But on a week to week basis - I am sure my veg eating is more expensive (probably double) of getting a $5 fill up. There are no "$5 fill up organic fill ups", that would be like 15 bucks.
Support your local animal shelter. I am on twitter.

Yeah to eat right you have to either have the money to afford it or shop very smart and be flexible.
I know a list of things I like to have on hand regularly and I will purchase when the prices are right and seal it and freeze..and if you know the pricing for different stores near you then figuring out when to eat certain things is easier.
One other thing..I rarely dine out, like never ever..and while I am not a pure veg like maybe some are, if you prepare foods at home and dine out less then the NET cost of your food purchases are lower even if you are shopping for organic as often as you can.
And knowing what food items are more important to buy organic is helpful...some food items are not necessarily needed to be organic because of the lower level of pesticides used and some are very important to insist on organic.

.. and we just ate at KFC last night! Kids love their chicken and their fries. I know its unhealthy but I don't want to ruin my day with kids' tantrums. Whew! Parenting is hard.
