Not buying it.  Some fat is fine. But eating mostly high-fat (60%+) foods - not good.  Need some lean proteins.

depeche, in my opinion, that website i posted is a great source of accurate info.  his main point is eating fat is good for you, miles better than what most people eat who try to stay on this low fat diet.  however, he would also agree that eating lean proteins is good for you as well.  basiaclly, you can eat as much fat as you want because you can't overeat it, but you should also incorporate  a lot of vegetables as well and some fruit.

depeche, for any given meal, would you choose a lean protein over a higher fat option and if so, why?

For health or weight purposes, yes I generally would.  I think a grilled chicken breast is going to be healthier than ribs.  Just my opinion.  I would agree that that the processed carbs might be worse, but if you want to lose weight you have to focus on lean proteins, and vegetables.

as someone that lost significant amount of weight eating a high fat diet, i beg to differ. It's all about eating healthy foods that keep you satiated. NOthing does that job quite like fats. And as a bigtime foody myself, chicken is fucking tasteless. Once you toss all your bbq sauces and ranch dressings in the trash, you quickly come to find that chicken always needs something else to make it a meal. Fats are often very tasty and can stand alone as a meal

If you want to lose (fat) weight, you have to focus on eliminating your sugar intake. Nothing more refreshing then a 30 day dose of ketosis. I partied way to hard the last couple weeks, i started keto this morning

Taste is very individual.  Personally I love chicken and can make it a lot of different ways without heavy sauces.  I love a grecian style chicken breast.  Made it at home the other day -- marinate in lemon, evoo, garlic and balsamic vinegar and then add spices like oregano, basil, parsley, S&P, etc.  A similar size ribeye is not going to fill me any more than chicken like this, but it's going to have A LOT more fat and calories.

And I don't want to eliminate my sugar intake.  I just need watermelon, strawberries and Talenti gelato, thank you very much.

And that's great you lost a lot of weight on a high fat diet, but how did you get the weight in the first place?  I could stand to lose a few, but I've never really been fat, maybe because I always tried to avoid eating a lot of fatty foods (I avoid fried shit, hot dogs, things like that).

"but if you want to lose weight you have to focus on lean proteins, and vegetables."

    your words, not mine

and i agree with you, i can make chicken six ways from sunday, and enjoy it. It just requires heavy doctoring because like most all foul, the white meat is more or less flavorless

that and i like my food to 'have a face'. They farm chickens without fucking heads, the entire process is disgusting, and it's nutritional value doesn't hold a candle to a fatty cut of beef ( or pork)

fairly slowly over the years, consuming a very low fat, standard Western diet. Frying food won't make it unhealthy, it's breading it that does you in. Hot dogs certainly aren't "healthy", but it's the bun that will make you fat not the shitty little hotdog

You shouldnt be doing a "high fat" diet. But, most people should up their intake on protein and fat and decrease their amount of carbs. Carbs is the biggest killer.

So the general consensus that sugar and carbs are what we should be avoiding? Not necessarily fat and calories?

ad1260 - When looking at a fat persons diet, most of the intake from this person is carbs. You need both Carbs/Fat/Protein in a good diet, but MOST people should decrease their intake of carbs and highten their intake of Protein and Fat. Also remember, aim for complex carbs, Oats, Brown Rice etc.

Thanks guys...I am currently trying to shed a few pounds. I am 5'10 178. Right now my only real exercise is at work per se, I am a server/waiter so I do quite a bit of walking. But other than that my exercise is pretty minimal.

I am trying to shed 15-20 pounds just by changing my diet completely once I get down to around 155-160 I would like to get back in to the gym and lift some weights to gain muscle but I feel like I have to lose some weight first.

Club, right now my carbs are mainly fruit...I eat fruit at breakfast and maybe as a snack during the day. Veggies at dinner. Breakfast today I had 3 scrambled eggs with some salsa and a cup of fruit.

I am attempting to eliminate all bread and sugar (other than fruit) from my diet and drink only water. Supposedly this is the key to weight loss simply based on diet  Also eliminating alcohol from my diet.

you got it. although, do you really desire to be a 155lb 'full grown man'? That sounds almost too small,,,,you're not that short. If i were you, i'd be looking to convert that fat to muscle rather then to shed it and then add muscle. But i'm a big guy with a big mouth so i can't afford to get too small, otherwise my mouth will write a check,,,my butt can't cash

ad, that sounds good.  if you can really eliminate added sugar, which isn't easy, you should see a lot of benefits, not just weight loss but energy and just feeling better overall.

as for water, there's nothing better to drink.  however, if you want to switch it up, tea is good and there are a million varieties.  the only other thing i drink, other than alcohol occasionally, is coconut water after i run or workout.

as for lifting weights, i might start doing that now.  i quit lifting weights about 8 years ago and never looked back but i believe it helps with your metabolism and will also give you a good benchmark as you convert your diet, meaning as you eliminate the bad foods and focus on the good ones, i bet you'll see improvement with your workouts.

be easy...lol I see your point but I am trying to be lean. Like when I was 18-19 I was 5-10 160 at the max and that is what I am trying to get back to. I went to college and pretty much went on a 5.5 year drinking bender and shit eating fest. Also I do not have access to a gym at the moment and my funds are running pretty thin right now (recovering from 2 Vegas trips and another trip to visit my friends/pay for a DUI conviction all in the last 3 months). So, I am trying to lose the weight first just to simply get my confidence about myself back and to look a little better physically (All of my added weight is in my stomach/torso/neck/face area...) BUT once I drop some decent weight, hopefully by the then my bank account will be flourishing again and I can snag a gym membership...

Club---I don't have a problem with just water, I occasionally put a sugar free crystal light or what not in there from time to time to change it up. I occasionally drink 1 cup of coffee in the mornings no sugar. I also drink a sugar free red bull before my work shifts (yes, I know it is terrible for me lol).  But other than that nothing else. As for the lifting weights, see the above paragraph directed at easy.

Thanks fellas  I will be referring to this thread with any questions/updates I may have for you guys.

Club, most of the carbs should be complex carbs like i said like Oats and Brown Rice, but of course you need vegetables and fruit too, not too much fruit for my self tho as im lifting weights and i do not want too much fructose.

    Milk is win too.
