Actually, that isn't a "great" headline at all.  In fact is pretty much sucks.  I don't know if Clifton Geathers ends up being a "thug" later in life or not, but I doubt there is sufficent reason to call him a thug at this point.  He comes from a pretty good family, has a brother in the NFL, another who just entered Georgia as a freshman, and a family that has been involved with them most all of their lives in a positive way.   I don't know who wrote the headline, but I would just bet it was someone from one fo their rivals trying to trash the SC program.

Look, all schools have several incidents every year, most all involve alcohol stupidity, and most get swept under the rug.  I amnot excusing Geathers because he deserves to be pimished for about 3-4 games for acting like a fool and resisting arrest.  He may be lucky he didn't catch a bullet for being that dumb.  But making a mistake while drinking in college doesn't make him a thug.  I am no SC fan, but if you don't think 75% of all  programs have cases similar this every season you are not being honest.

Good to see Obes, the Colonel and Sharp in the house talking ball again......it makes my heart all a flutter.....LOL    The same goes for some of the other regulars over the years, just too many names to list.  Obes makes some great points about this game here.  NC State is far more talented in the passing game in this matchup and they are at home.........And "The ol ball coach"......make me puke....hasn't done much for my friends Redskins or the Cocks since leaving Florida.  I still love the under here......but I may put a little something on the Pack.  Still thinking though.......GL all!

Hey what's up fellas....Been using the site for years but just recently signed up for an account.

I'm liking the wolfpack here...

NC-state brings back sophomore stud Russell Wilson at QB(1st team all-conference as freshman) with his top two receivers from last year in Spencer and J. Williams.

While the cocks have to rely on Stephen Garcia under center who is unproven. Also, they have lost their top two receivers.  Spurrier should have his guys ready but will anyone step up and become a consistent playmaker?

I'll take NC state at -4

(side note: Russell Wilson's TD to INT ratio last season was 17 TD/1 INT)

not so sure on the under play...cocks will be starting 2 true freshman at the corners.....turnovers turn into garbage scoring...in sc qb garcia's last game action against iowa, he turned the ball over on 3 straight possesions!

I'll be posting my ATS report on this game later in the week, but for now here is my preseason preview of each team:

South Carolina Gamecocks | Last Year: 7-6 | My 2009 Prediction: 5-7

This has to be a do-or-die season in Steve Spurrier’s fifth season as HC for the Gamecocks.  Expectations are high (maybe unrealistically high) these days in college football, especially for teams in the bigger conferences.  But, Spurrier has gone just 28-21 in the past four seasons with his best record being 8-5 with a bowl win over Houston in 2006.  It’s not all his fault, though.  The players still have to execute and take care of the ball-something they did not do last year having thrown 27 INT’s with 38 TO’s in all, both good for worst in the nation.  The O-line was horrible last year giving up 39 sacks and making way for a mere 94 rush yards per game.  This year the O-line returns and can’t be any worse.  There’s still no proven answer at RB, but rather a rotation of 3.  QB Garcia played 3 games last year and threw 8 int’s, so he’ll have to get much better and make smarter decisions, although he’s still going to make the mistakes in his first year as the starter.  The secondary loses 3 superb starters from the nation’s 2nd best pass defense last year.  The strength of the team should once again be the DEF centered around one of the nation’s best LB in Eric Norwood, who had 75 tackles and 9 sacks last season.  Overall, expectations cannot be too high considering the questions yet to be answered.  The DEF could be on the field a lot if the OFF doesn’t come up with a way to score.  With the season opener at NC State considered to be a must win game and the Georgia game a week later almost a certain L, a good indication of where this team is will be in the third game of the season at home against an FAU team possessing a potent OFF.  It will be interesting to see the FAU OFF vs. the SC DEF.  If the SC DEF can contain FAU as well as put points on the board themselves, the Gamecocks will be headed in the right direction with at best a 2-1 record to start the season.  At the same time, the Gamecocks are fully capable of starting the season 0-4 (4th game at home vs. Miss) before taking a break with SC ST.

NC State Wolfpack | Last Year: 6-7 | My 2009 Prediction: 8-4

HC Tom O’Brien has steadily improved his Wolfpack team, taking them from 3-9 when he took over to 5-7 his first year and 6-7 and a bowl game last year.  This year I think he’ll continue with the progression of his team.  The Wolfpack OFF returns 7 and will benefit from a good stable of RB’s and QB Russell Wilson, who as a Freshman, led the conference in total OFF at 213 yards/game and posted the best TD-INT ratio of anyone in the ACC with 17-1.  The O-line will have to do their job of helping keep Wilson healthy and off the ground as they gave up 29 sacks last year.  The O-line will, however, be more experienced this year as 4 starters return.  The D-line will be solid as all 4 starters are seniors, including future NFL draft pick DE Willie Young.  Slow starts have killed the Wolfpack the last few years, but this year they have a great opportunity to start strong, but they’ll be tested right out of the gate as they host S. Carolina in a primetime game on ESPN Thursday, Sept. 3rd-a game the entire college football nation will certainly be watching as it is the first game of the season of any significance.  If NC State can win against SC, who’s down this year and in the bottom half of the SEC, they’ll start the season 3-0 as the next two games are home layup games against FCS teams, and it will give them the confidence they need heading into the meat of their schedule.  If they beat Pitt in their 4th contest, I think they’ll start 6-0 and make some noise in the ACC Atlantic.

Right now, I'm thinking NC State, but like I said, I'll post my full ATS post later this week.

BTW, "SEC speed will prevail" is a ridiculous reason to pick any team.  Nobody is still buying that propaganda promoted by ESPN. I read a report regarding the recent NFL combine statistics, players from northern schools posted faster 40 times than those from southern schools, but it was marginal (like .02 faster on average).  My point is, every school goes after fast athletes and the SEC has no secret or decided speed advantage.

Well good luck to you bud,  just saying that games like this are hard to judge. It's irrelevant what NFL combines state anyways. I like the SC defense over NC states offense and that's what i will be going off of. It is a proven fact that SEC teams are ranked higher statistically than other conferences. And that is all im going to post on that. I usually don't get drug into arguements like this over which conference is better. Its all about matchups.

NC State –5

NC State had a strong finish last year going 4-1. The loss was by 6 to Rutgers in bowl game. I would expect that momentum to continue into this season. Wolfpack is returning 7 starters on defense. The 4 defensive front are seniors and looked strong last year. Offensively, Russell Wilson was named first-team All-ACC as a freshman. His main targets return with him (Owen Spencer & Jarvis Williams).

South Carolina on the other hand lost the last three games by a total of 88 points. They return 4 starters on offense and 6 on defense. Finally there is a named starter Stephen Garcia and will not be rotating as prior year. But the tone of Spurrier’s voice he still is not that confidant in him “Garcia should be ready if he dedicates himself”. Garcia did not impress with 832 yards, 53% completion with a horrific 8 interceptions. It all starts with the O-Line. SC has had the worst rushing attack in the SEC the last 2 years. Gave up 39 sacks last year, worst in SEC behind Arkansas. South Carolina defense is fortunate Eric Norwood did not enter the NFL draft because he is the most solid LB in the game. I would expect him to continue to do well. But this team lacks depth in their defense. They can not afford to be on the field to much which I expect since SC offense will not be picking up to many 1st downs.

Take NC State!

I'm all over NC State here, taking them -4.5.  Yeah I wish I got it at 3.5 while it was there but I can see it going even higher.

Good luck fellas, good to see some familiar names back in action!

Lay the points and the under NCST takes this game late.

NCST QB Wilson All ACC as a Frosh only played limited time in this game LY and will be the difference in this game.
