Its almost impossible to prepare for the triple option, unless your offense runs it ! Knowing your asignment is one thing, preforming at game speed is another ........ Early lean GA Tech but not completly sure just yet
not sure i agree with you. see LSU last year. Tech's defense is terrible.

this line boggles my mind... why in God's name is Tech favored here? there is no doubt in my mind that Iowa will win the game, and will win it handily...
who are the people on the planet that think these two teams are in the same league? wow!
thank God the Big 10 has struggled in bowl games in recent years (although, not this year)... it has created this fucked up perception that the Big 10 is soft (but... not this year!)...
in case you didn't notice, the best defense in all of college football was played by the Big 10 elite this season... Penn St... Ohio St... Iowa...
no other conference has 3 teams that strong on defense... none!
Tech is gonna get their asses handed to them... not even close!
How about the SEC with 2 of the top 4 and 3 of the top 15. 5 of the top 25 and 7 of the top 30.

reread please... i said nothing about the Big 10's offenses... that is a moot point... just like the shitty defenses in the Big 12 and Pac 10 are a moot point when talking about their offenses... and talking about the shitty offenses in the Big East and SEC are a moot point when talking about their defenses...
stupid argument... try something else!
I think what Pretice meant is that you dont have offense then you cant sure ....so your defense will be good. If you have a good defense against good offense teams , then yes you are good. but you cant have a good defense against defensive minded teams.

HawkeyeFan, Great points about GT & their last 4 bowl games. I remember last year, when GT palyed LSU in their bowl game, the whole world thought that GT was going to KILL LSU (NOT ME!!!!) & look what LSU did to them......They ate them for breakfast, lunch & dinner!!! As for Iowa, no one realizes this.........Iowa was BASICALLY the only team to score 24 points against Ohio State this year ( & the game was AT Ohio State!!). I know that they lost the game to Ohio State in OT, but they found a way to SCORE against one of the top 3 to 5 defenses in all of college football!!! IF Iowa can score 24 against an AWESOME "D" in Ohio State, I THINK that they will be able to score against a HALF ASS Georgia Tech defense!! Iowa WINS this game outright!!!
Final score: Iowa 31 Geo.Tech 21
Didnt Navy score 27 against Ohio st at Ohio St. Thats a triple option offense as well. The point is that Iowa is ranked 93 in offense. You may not need a defense in that case. Kinda like my beloved Redskins. Good defense, bad offense. 4-12. Didny Iowa get a kickoff return for a td as well. Has Iowa scored 31 this year already against bowl teams.

Big ten: minnesota should not have been in a bowl (lost by a pt.) Northwestern has no chance against auburn ( 3 pt. loss) Penn st. will be out played by Lsu (win) Ohio State Buckeyes will get crushed by the fast and furious oregon ducks ( Bucks out play them and WIN) Mich st. w/out 14 players will get crushed by tech( Hang in the game until the end) Wisconsin is too slow for fast Miami ( easy win) Iowa can't hang with gtech and their speed on offense ( good night G-tech) Iowa may look like an offensive power house against this defense and the triple option will wither to an attempt to pass after the bruises established by the hawkeyes D dismantle nesbit and the rest.
Hawkeyes 31 - Jackets 13 and the respect for the Big Ten grows

I agree if you only have a week to prepare but we are talking about a month and it all depends on the talent on the Def. side of the ball. Triple option tonight will result in triple turnovers for gtech against Hawkeye D.

The key Stat is that while on the surface the overall GT offence at 12 looks about = to the Iowa Defence at 11 but if you break it down and look at from run offence versus run defence its very different
We all know this is a running matchup with not much passing happening. So lloking at the GT run offence Versus the Iowa Run defence its the 2 GT Run offence Versus the 32 Run defence.
The Iowa defensive is built up by the gr8 performances against the patsy teams they played early and is going to be unmasked by the for real GT running game.
Got U-conn and Boise right and like my chances here too

GT - 5 1/2 is the play here.

You cant duplicate game speed and you play in the big 10 where there is little to no speed. Look at the other option teams that have played so far ex. Air Force and navy. Granite they didnt play top of the line defenses but, they dominated from whistle to whistle. Love the under here and GT. Team speed will Kill Iowa.
28-12 GT

I like Iowa in this spot huge. The reason is they covered all their point spreads as a underdog this year even including the one at Ohio State with a backup QB. They seem to play their best football in the underdog role. Good luck to all in this game. Go Hawkeyes!!!

Stanzi been out for a while so I'm just wondering if he will start off a little rusty...A long lay off normally does not affect a running team as much as a passing team. GT has a strong running game so I'm looking to go with GT in the 1st half but still thinking...

I am a big 10 guy and definitly have been happy with what they have done so far. Normally I would be rooting for Iowa tonight but I have to go with Georgia Tech here. I have watched the Hawkeyes play most of the year and I realize that this is a good spot for them as an underdog. They will give Tech a great game tonight, but for me I believe that Tech is almost impossible to stop. Once they turn that corner there isn't anybody on Iowa to catch them. Its on thing to have a traditional offense and run right at them but Tech can go up the middle, bounce it outside or go deep when you least expect it. I do think that Iowa will be able to run the ball pretty well but I'm not sure if Iowa can hold up in passing situations. I like Moeaki and the wrs but Tech can put pressure on the QB. I like Tech to make more big plays at the end of the day.

THE REASON THE TRIPLE OPTION IS SO DIFFICULT TO PREPARE FOR IS BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENT BLOCKING SCHEMES. IT IS NOT DIRECT ASSIGNMENT FOOTBALL. THE DEFENSIVE END DOESNT ALWAYS HAVE THE QB ON THE OPTION. THE OUTSIDE LINEBACKER DOESNT ALWAYS HAVE THE TAILBACK AND NEITHER DOES THE PLAYSIDE CORNER.
GT IS GOOD AT RUNNING THE SAME OPTION AND FORCING DIFFERENT GUYS TO HAVE DIFFERENT RESPONSIBILITIES. ITS NOT JUST ASSIGNMENT FOOTBALL. ITS ROTATING ASSIGNMENT FOOTBALL.
THEIR IS A REASON THAT TEAMS LIKE AIR FORCE AND NAVY CAN PLAY WITH MORE TALENTED TEAMS. THIS OFFENSE WILL COMPLETELY FRUSTRATE THE DEFENSE AND THE OTHER OFFENSE STANDING ON THE SIDELINES. YOU COULD SEE THE FRUSTRATION ON THE FACES OF THE MISSOURI TEAM DURING THEIR BOWL GAME.
JUST LIKE BOISE STATES DEFENSE PLAYED ABOVE THEIR HEADS LAST NIGHT, EXPECT THE SAME FROM GT DEFENSE. THEY ARE THE WEAKEST UNIT ON THE FIELD AND TRUST ME THEY KNOW IT. THEY WILL COME OUT WILL MORE MOTIVATION THAN ANY UNIT ON THE FIELD.
PLAY IS GT AS LONG AS YOU GET IT UNDER -7

A lot of focus on the Iowa D stopping the Tech option but there's another stat that might matter more: Tech's D is pathetic. They rank 103 in yards allowed per play, giving up 6.1 yards every snap. Meanwhile, Iowa gives up 4.1 yards per play.
I will also roll with the better coach and the team from the better conference.
Medium play on Iowa money line.
I agree, but i also agree with wild card, the GT defense knows thier the weakest unit on the field. I think the game will be a close one, within a touch down and maybe even an Iowa win.
I don't like how the line moved to 5...going with Iowa.

Yes Boise came to play and TCU did not. TCU may have had the better team/athletes but coaching and interceptions and fake punt and dropped passes was the downfall. Who comes motivated to play will decide. Oregon could not beat Ohio St. Fresno was supposed to handle WY. NV got smoked by SMU and Miami got upset by WS. All favorites who went down. GT might roll with their option attack, we shall see. I am taking a chance on Iowa and defense to keep them in the game and pull off another upset in the bowl season.
