Thanks for the post, DERDATIZ.
We've all come to realize that Western Michigan is soley a product of their passing game. They are a relatively non functional defensive unit, giving up 400 yds/gm, 215 rushing yds/gm and 21 td's so far this season. When Western is able to throw and get ahead of their opponent, Western also helps out their defense by forcing their opponent to throw which Western's defense has shown to be more sound, giving up only 181 passing yds/gm. However, when teams are able to be balanced and control t.o.p., it causes problems for not only Western but for any team. Last week was a prime example....Eastern controlled T.O.P 2:1 and was able to rush for 200 yds while converting 40% of 3rd down conversions. Eastern's defensive scheme deserves a lot of credit as they played mostly nickel defense and gave up a lot of underneath routes but Eastern's LB's did a great job helping the secondary by not giving up any big plays. Carder went 24 for 34 for only 184 yds. So in summary, if you have a team with an athletic defense who can play a solid nickel and a running game to match up with Western's weakness, Western will be beaten. If teams cant run the ball, then most likely, Western will cover. In this week's matchup against Ball State, I think Carder and Western can get back to producing like they were before they stumbled over the last two week span. CMU's Radcliff torched Ball State's defense for 424 yds last week and that has been a common theme throughout the year for Ball State. Ball State only averages 130 rushing yds/gm and 230 passing yds/gm with only 20 offensive td's this season. Meanwhile, Ball State's defense is getting hammered, giving up 500 yds/gm and 31 td's this season. This is a favorable matchup for Western this week against Ball State and I'm willing to lay the chalk ![]()

I just saw that. I love CMU this week. I'm not stubborn. If I thought CMU was a questionable play, I'd say so. I didn't play Western Michigan last week because I thought they were a questionable play. This week, CMU will put up the points. 38-20 sounds about right.
