Now, Texas actually has a really solid interior defense and are comparable to Michigan in one way: Rush Defense. Their rush defense is ranked #5 in the country (Michigan is #4) and Texas's interior line is the reason they are a top 15 defense total.
But to beat Washington, you need to get pressure on Penix and you need to be great in coverage. And that's what Michigan has...
PFF grades Michigan's pass rush as the 4th best in the country and it's coverage as the #1 unit in the country. Texas has the #16 ranked pass rush combined with the #63 ranked secondary. One team (Wash) can score at will ( 34 pure ppg/road) the opponent Michigan doesn't score at will ( 17-19 pppg). One team (Wash ) gives up 31 pure per game exact (recent road form) the opponent(Mich) gives up 18- 20. vs lesser AOPR caliber teams.
Because of Washingtons +8 AOPR (caliber of competition) superiority they will be able to score at least 30 on Michigan's defense. and because Michigan with their their paltry road offense of 17-19 pure points per game , they will have a hard time scoring 30 vs Wash defense, maybe 28 at the most.

I will note that against a veritable "Murderer's Row" of East Carolina, UNLV, Bowling Green and Rutgers that UM averaged 32 points on offense

Any feelings about the over/under 55? I want to say under because Michigan loves to run the ball and waste clock. UW seems to do their own version of that by running clock down between plays. But, UW’s ability is score at will makes me afraid of the under.
