Vegas-angle: You are right. I wouldn't care so much about the money. But I wouldn't want my family to be wiped out.
Vegas fixes games and you would be naive to think otherwise. As a small time former bookie, I have lost my shirt to gamblers, each and every one of them over the years. Setting the same lines as Vegas at -110, the same 53.2% edge and I am down.
Gambler get to choose which team to bet on. Sometimes the choice is obvious and in those games people lay the most action on. Those games have 80%+ on one side usually. Trust me, I have been to sportsbooks in Vegas and 90% of the room usually cheers for the same side during a game.
Rarely will a bet have 50-50 action or even close to it. Vegas NEEDS to win 47% of those to break even and they just wouldn't be able to do that without the fixing.
How many times did you see a team being up big score a meaningless TD to take an even bigger meaningless lead just to send the total close to the over and then both teams running out the clock? The Giants game was a perfect example. I have never seen a team in the NFL with the lead go for it on 4th and 1 from well within FG range without even considering a timeout. And what did they do. A handoff and fall down behind the line of scrimmage. But Oklahoma State kicking the FG from the 1 foot line still boggles my mind. I had no action on that game besides the over. I mean even if you miss you got Stanford up against their goal line.
