Vegas DOES NOT NEED to fix games.

Sports betting is an estimated 200 BILLION DOLLAR industry annually.  Sportsbooks collect 10% vig on this figure.  That's 20 BILLION DOLLARS of profit!  And this doesn't include all the money they make off of losing bet types like Parlays. 

They don't need to fix games.. they're making a killing off of us anyways.  One single game to a sportsbook is completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.  Their goal is to offer as many lines as possible on as many differnt things just to get more action.  They profit either way.. they just want you to bet more.. they don't care whether you win or lose on any given night.  They KNOW that they're guaranteed to make ludicrous profits in the long run.  It's just basic statistics.  So quit your bitching.  I'm sick of hearing it.

Don't even bother man, covers has gone downhill as of late. It's a fix if some members lose their bets LOL. Seen this shit with prospects and long time members.

You  are  absolutely  right.,   vegas not only  doesnt  fix  games,  they  dont  want anybody to fix  games . if  that happened ,  people would lose confidence to gamble.   i  do  think some  individuals  may  be  gotten to. 

But, last  night was  not that.    i  dont  think for  a  second  that the  receiver for OkSt purposely got  tackled on the  1/2 yrd  line.  He  was  stretching and  from the  naked  eye, it  did look  like he  got in.  it would  have  taken enormous skill from both the tackler and the  tackled to  pull off something so  razor thin.

 

People are just dumb man.  They dont understand Vegas is just so good at setting lines and then the games are close to the line so often and when a team loses at the last second all of a sudden its a fix.  NO its called sports and Vegas understands sports better than we do so get over it!!

And why would Vegas be in the business of gambling when all they have to do is set a even line to get 50-50 and guarantee money.  Its not hard to understand people.  If I get $100,000 on side a and $100,000 on side b, I make $10,000 in one game.  Now after understanding this easy concept.  Someone please tell me why they even would care to fix a game or take a side???  They make the most with 50-50 action.

Absolutely.  It's a bigger risk to them to lose potential action as a result of this than it is a gain a little extra money on a single game.

I'd be lying if I said I didnt believe there is human influence in some of these games and players, refs, coaches are very possible to factor in the result of games.  But straight up fixing, no way in fuck!  Loose lips wouldve sunk that ship years ago.   The greed gets to some and they do factor into some of these games, but games are not fixed and I assume the majority of games are not influenced.  But you would be a fucking idiot if you didnt think once in a while some college kid or ref with 6 kids who needs some extra cash hasnt factored into a few games over the years.

Ive seen my share of fishy endings (kevin durant handing the ball to the coach last year with a second left lol) but this is ludicrous.  This is kind of like how everyone thought the world series was fixed also.  As someone else pointed out, if Stanford hits either FG, OKST still doesn't cover (Stanford win or OKST TD = 3 pt win). 

Certainly we cannot account for every individual.  There are probably some individuals - coaches, players, officials - that try and influence the outcome of a specific game for malicious reasons.  Whether it's because they're trying to capitalize on a gamble or for any other reason.. I'm sure this happens on some very rare occasions.

This thread isn't to refute the possibility of a fix.. it's to point out that the conspiracy theory that sportsbooks regularly fix games to increase their annual profit does not make statistical sense.  The risk outweighs the reward.. and there is nobody better at performing cost/benefit calculations than sportsbooks.

You don't think that WR/kid from Wisc wanted to fumble that ball & cost them the game.  Valid argument either way, but we as gamblers have all ? plays, calls, etc.. like this

For example, I has UGA -3 & over 59.5  By half I turned it off 16-0. I questioned if Vegas called & told them to start scoring

Ok so the Det and GB game lasted over 4 hours. and the outcome of that game had a huge effect on the Atl game. If Det loses before Atl kicks off Atl gets pounded. What happened? Atl crushed and covered easily. But yet nobody knew what was going to happen with Det. Atl comes out and covers pretty much as Det game is coming to an end.

As S. Car pulls ahead Georgia game takes a huge slow down in time. Why? Because most people had S. Car and Georgia on parlay cards. If that hits they would most likley put it on Oregon and the Over. Books know where the moneys at and what outcomes effect their profits. Its not hard to figure out S. Car win and Georgia win is going to crush them with an easy over game up next. Instead Georgia plays some BS game that carries over in time to last about 5 hours. Delaying anyone from cashing parlay cards to lay on the Oregon game. 

Stanford why in the world with 50 seconds and 3 time outs do you settle for a 40+ yard FG? Luck is hitting close to 90% passing and your running for almost 5 yards an att. They could have ran 7 more plays and moved the ball at least 15-20 more yards to set up an easy FG, if not score a TD in the 4th. They seemed to be ok with SETTELING for a long FG. Oh same shit happened in the Georgia game.

NBA has proven they fix games. Why would you think college bowl games don't do the same? OK st is one of the worst teams at it. Look how many of their totals have landed in the middle of the opening and closing lines. I mean they scored over 30 points in the 3rd qtr and then 3 in the 4th to land in the middle of the total. This total middle happened 3 out of 4 weeks. DO not tell me Vegas is that good on their totals.

ask any coach if settling for a 40+ yard FG when you clearly have opportunities to move the ball is the right call. 99% would say no they would try to move the ball. The other 1% are working with Vegas. Its sad they have to do it on the big stage. Why do you think College won't goto a playoff system? They make too much of fixing bowl games and nobody cares because there's a game in a few hours.

Football games should not last over 4.5 hours. We just saw a shady ass weekend. If Vegas wants to keep customers they should stop fixing games.

^ They don't need to do any of this.  The point is:  they're making enough guaranteed money in the long run anyways!  10% of 200 Billion is plenty to go around.  And that's JUST on sports betting.  They only have a 1% edge on slot machines.  10% is more than enough.

stop thinking the long run. VEGAS cares about THIS NEXT game. They see profits and they do what ever it is they do to collect RIGHT NOW. Don't be blinded by the BS that Vegas doesn't need to fix games. They also do not get 50/50 action on every game. When they do have 50/50 action they would be more inclined to let the game play out is at may. When action is heavy on either side they have more intentions to want to control the outcome of the score. Its not hard to see.

The only comical thing is the face you use a rolling smiley face to try to prove a point.  If they didn't care about each game, why move a line to try to adjust the action? I mean in your eyes if they only worried about the long run moving a line from 13 to 10 has no meaning, because they only care about the vig. Stop lying to yourself.

Line moves improve their efficiency at achieving 50-50 money split.
