they are getting a lot of love again this season. I am inclined to go against the team because of their qb issue. He is coming off a serious injury and doesn’t have much experience. I am not saying he isn’t good or I don’t like the kid. I am saying that maybe the expectations are a little high given what we know (or don’t know) now. Thoughts?
They recruited very well and transfer season was tepid, but with high quality.
McGuire can coach his ass off and the players like him, so I expect him to design an offense that is efficient, balanced and does not put the QB in danger as much, or reliance upon. Expect them to start slow, and finish strongly. From what I remember of Will Hammond, he used his legs well, threw on the run and made some clutch passes vs a Utah team that was rated Top 10 until TTech went into their building and stomped them 34 - 10 with Hammond leading 4 drives for scores in the second half

They are one of my faves to watch because of McGuire now and Hammond really impressed me. I am not discounting them to be in the thick of the Playoff race.
Their schedule is cake. They will be favorites of more than a TD for the whole season. The best defenses they will face will have to deal with Tech in Lubbock (Houston, Arizona, TCU). Their toughest road game is either Baylor or Oklahoma State. OKST is my lean as it will be November and Eric Morris and company will have had 9 games to work through the year 1 growing pains, and Baylor might have already quit on the season and fired Dave Aranda by week 12.
Cameron Dickey & J’Koby Williams are a very solid backfield combo that should allow Hammond to ease into the new starting role. A lot of people like to bring up the struggles he had against ASU, but people forget that he stepped into the game @ Utah in the 3rd quarter and helped lead the Red Raiders to 24 4th-quarter points. When you aren't getting the 1st-team reps during game week, that is a tough spot to jump into and find success. He's got two games to get off the rust from the ACL tear he suffered last season before their 1st, and maybe only real test comes to Lubbock week 3 (Houston).
