Another good week men. 9 - 5 + 9 units. If not for the Baylor moose and the Arizona/Utah no points2nd half moose, I would have had a super week. But winning is winning and I like it. The haters on this site are crazy. The hate the fact that I own them. Anyways, buckle down we got a lot to talk about!



                                   Ten Things We Learned




1.  Let's talk about this overrated thing called the SEC. Arkansas is a disgrace, Tennessee had a slug fest with Akron and the team that all of you said was most overrated should have beat LSU. If Auburn just doesn't shoot themselves in the foot the entire game they beat LSU. really the whole conference is overrated with the exception of Alabama. Yes, Alabama is a great great team and I give them credit. But after that, it's just bunch of teams, nothing special at all. You know what it proves? I tell you guys all the time in here. Playing on the road is the biggest factor in all of college football. The SEC is just like every other conference with the exception of Alabama.

2. Not sure if any of you watched TCU last week and this week. Something is definitely going on here. I not one of those conspiracy guys or anything, but What TCU did the last two weeks might make me one. They looked like they were on the take last week in Kansas as they tried everything humanly possible not to cover that game. This week was just the opposite. That late TD for Absolutely no reason really raises a flag. If anyone else seen or noticed this comment on it.

3. I think Clemson defense without question needs improvement. Trust me when I say " help is on the way ". Dabo is recruiting top level Defensive talent. In a few years things will change. As for this game goes, I think it showed me a few things. Playing on the road is the most difficult thing in college football, as previously stated. FSU is a very good football team, as previously stated. Clemson has a elite offense, as previously stated. But most of all, FSU is back people. Get use to it. Clemson needs not to hang there heads. I'm not sure any team in the country could win on Saturday night in Tallahassee against these guys.

4. I know i have been riding the BIG 10 all year, and guess what? I'm not gonna stop. Wow. Power houses Central Michigan and La Tech came up north and put the smack down on the Big 10. La tech literally beat the shit out of Illinois. Thank goodness Sparty has a defense or they would be 0-4 right now just ask out covers brother Bense. Wisconsin might not be at .500 by the end of the year. Michigan scored 6 points on N.D this weekend. Matter of fact, the state of Michigan scored a grand total of 9 points against N.D in 8 quarters of play. This is the worst I have ever seen this league.

5. Im gonna give you guys a little hint. If you haven't noticed, im betting the over in Rice games. Why you say? They cant stop our High school team here in Greenville. This is and has been easy money. There are tons of teams out there now that have after 4 weeks have showed us all who they are. Rice is one of them. I got believe I got the shakedown on a lot of teams now, and that is and will be very profitable the rest of the way. If you guys feel like you really see the " truth " in some teams, please share.

6. Loss of the day has to go to Washington S.T. But before you Leach haters get excited, I warned you that it was gonna take a few years for Leach to get these guys where they need to be. But with that said, losing to Colorado is about as bad as it gets. Someone asked me the other day on here how did I feel about Washington S.T being a 17 or 20 point favorite. I said not very good and the reason is, this team doesn't have any recent history of success so how in the world can the handle being such a huge favorite. Lesson learned.

7. Bob Stoops has never lost at home to a ranked team ever. EVER!! Until the wizard himself came to Norman last night. How man times must I say it people? Bill Snyder is a genius. What he done last night is remarkable on so many levels. Think about it. His talent vs Oklahoma's. His 2 star guys against your roster full of 4 and 5 star guys. Kansas S.T has a long road ahead for them, but I pulling for this team now. LOL, to go into Norman and do what they did last night deserves a special award or something. Yeah we can argue that Oklahoma is overrated, but not going into Norman is easy. How significant was beating Oklahoma in Norman last night? Bob was 77-3 going into that game last night at home.

8. I think we can all settle the debate about whether Oregon can play defense or not. I have thought all along that these guys were much better defensively then they were showing. They beat a pretty good offense in Arizona last night. But to shut them out was impressive. If any of you here on the East coast dont ever stay up and watch Oregon play, you need to. This team will be in the NC game this season. I feel pretty confident about that now. Go Ducks!

9. One more week I will discuss this before I proclaimed it to be true. Is Notre Dame back? I think they might be. Now, beating the state of Michigan isn't a huge award to put on your vest, but nevertheless it is impressive. Look Brian Kelly is a good coach whether you or anybody else likes him. A few years ago when Kelly came to South Bend I said then, Notre Dame found there guy. I think the schedule is extremely tough and will be there ultimate down fall as the year progresses. But I do like this team.

10. Can you guys believe that a third of the season is gone? Wow!  I hate it too. But there is a ton of football left to be played. I think  if you have been struggling so far this season keep your head up, we got a long way to go. Now is the time you have to focus. Why? The line makers are gonna get real sharp now. They will be fully adapted to how these teams are now. trust me, after week 4 of every season it will separate the men from the boys. I say GL  and stay focused.

great read and agree with your assessment...I had TCU the past 2 weeks and nearly smashed my TV both times. Big 10 is not good and the SEC is Bama with reputation carrying both conferences until now. The cat is out of the bag so to speak. BTW great week

The SEC doesn't have exclusive rights to the best recruits in the country, although they might be able to afford them more than most (but don't tell that to So. Cal ) The Pac 10, Big 12, and ACC has plenty of talent to go around as well but the Big 10 on the other hand...not so much.

what about Georgia?  they're probably #4 this week after laying a beating...

Boom but Georgia, Florida and South Carolina are very good football teams from the SEC.

Getty -  I hear ya... I think Florida has played there way into getting respect. But who has Georgia or S.C played thats any good? im just not overly impressed with the whole conference other than Bama.

Shakey - I forgot you a B.C fan  you know what man.... I think Clemson will have a very hard time not only winning this week.... let alone covering. Playing B.C this week is probably a good play. If the line is under 13 I say take B.C. the line will be 60 to 68 on the total.

TheKID - I hear what your saying  man, But Baylor loses the cover with 6 seconds left in the game. Clemson covered the entire game... if FSU covers the game it would have been a moose the other way...and yes, If my total is 50 and both teams score 31 in the first half... thats called a moose...GL this week

One more thing...........I agree with the Ducks most likely making it to the NC. Now that we know USC is definitely overrated (pains me to say that), Ducks schedule it very manageable. Toughest game maybe Stanford at home, and personally I think they smoke em. They play USC and ASU on the road but they should take care of business.

1/3 of the season is gone???   Where does the time go??  Where did my money  go?!??!

Love the weekly thread Boom but i disagree with a few things.
1. SEC is best conference and not overrated. Bama, Georgia, lsu, south Carolina, Florida are all legit squads that if any were in other conferences they would have really good chance of winning it, auburn plays defense better than a lot of.teams in cfb and a&m can hang with most as well.
2.Oregon is not going to nc game or going undefeated. They average 3-4 turnovers a game that a usc/Stanford/ucla/asu team will make them pay for. Az has no kicking game and no short yardage offense, so their d was made to look really good last night.

I do agree nd is back, I think they only lose to to Stanford..they are a big physical team that usc does not like to play and Oklahoma has down year with all the personnel out

Don't be hating on the powerhouse that is Central Michigan! 

I'm a huge Michigan fan and this could be biased but Notre Dame is far from being "back".  They get SIX turnovers and win by 6 points?  Michigan had more yards, first downs, 3rd down conversions and dominated TOP.  If ND was truly elite they would have won by 20+.  Their defense is stout, that much I can give them credit.

I didn't say they weren't, I said if they turn the ball over 3-4 times like they have every game this year, that an actual good team will take advantage of it

Always a close follower Boom, and typically use a couple of your picks each week that I like (ie: Rice over - FSU last week).  That said, I would have to respectively disagree with a couple points.  1.  I don't think Notre Dame is a very good team.  They have no explosive players offensively, and there back 4 are very inexperienced.  UM had guys running around open everywhere that entire game.  If #16 doesn't keep throwing to the dark colored jerseys, making head scratching reads (or fumbling on the 10) that game is completely different.  IMO, UM beat them defensively and offensively, but only two numbers matter, the scoreboard.  I do agree that Kelly is a good coach, but personally feel, ND is an average team at best.  They have a "good" front 7, but I heard the talking heads saying that front 7 is an "SEC" type.  What?  I watched the South Carolina game, and it's not even comparable, not too mention 'Bama or LSU (or FSU for that matter).  I'm not a ND hater at all, I just wasn't impressed with a defense that I heard so much about, and watched a Michigan offense do pretty damn well.  Hell, ND at 3 plays of offense in the thid quarter b/c their D couldn't get off th field.  IMO (and I stress, just my opinion) Michigan lost that game, ND didn't win it (vice/versa of last years UM/ND game).

As for Oregon, the same can be said.  Dropped passes (alot of dropped passed), dumb penalties, missed FG's by 'Zona.  5 trips into the redzone and 0 points? (much like MIchigan).  IMO, Zona was much more physical and Oregon should have been down in the first half.  Yes.  They obviously have a couple of VERY explosive players, but both their QB's are very suspect, and if you get them in passing downs (which obviously can be hard to do) they have some issues.  I'm not saying Oregon is horrible by any stretch, I just think you & I watched the same game, but came away with two completely different opinions.  If not for about 4 dropped passes, that game is by no means a "shut out".  I wasn't as impressed with Oregon's D as you were, much the opposite actually.  I think USC will expose what 'Zona couldn't.

btw.  I hear you on Leach (& agree).  But I would also say, as a Big Ten Fan (which is very hard to say right now) - I think that same can be said about Brady Hoke & Urban Meyer.  It's gonna take a couple years, but I think both of those guys are going to have some very strong teams in the near future.  It's just gonna take some time.  They are both plucking recruits away from SEC teams, which if (and a big if) thos recruits pan out (always a crap shoot) - things could get interesting in the future.

As someone who is close to the OU team, I saw this coming dating back to this past spring. Lots of internal issues with this team that are even worse that the public perceives. And apparently even the sharps who were on OU all last week and keeping that line up even though most of the public was on KSU. Which in itself is pretty amazing given that the sharps are supposed to know more than us. Ha! I've seen these betting syndicates make mistake after mistake this year. It's either that or we're getting a lot of false positives with the line. All I know is when the spread got up to +16 I jumped all over it.

Great run on your totals Boom. That's one thing that I'm having trouble with this season. But now that the first month is in the books, I'll probably be leaning more towards the overs.

As for TCU, what you saw at home has been their motus operandi for years. Patterson will not let up until the game is over. But with the start of Big 12 play we won't have to worrry about it. With his young team he's going to be struggling to win, much less cover.

Georgia is probably the real deal. But I still don't trust Richt.

AU came to play last night, LSU didn't. 4 teams in the top 6 and you refuse to give the conference it's due. I see nothing has changed.

AU would beat Clemson.

Meant last night. Their defense came to play and the team was high as a kite. I was in there and the crowd was crazy. It's funny how he reiterates how hard playing on the road is but that doesn't factor into his assessment on this game somehow. Like I said, nothing has changed.

They dont play defense. This statement is comical.

Well they didn't play last night. Hypotheticals aren't going to win you anything.  I would argue that LSU has been known to play down to their competition occassionally.  They had no reason to respect Auburn based on their play thus far.  They felt Auburn punch back and almost choked it away. They are kids still, unlike NFL players. They are easier to rattle, more likely to choke, and more easily swayed by the home crowd.  That's why home field advantage means a lot more in college than in the NFL.
