What # was LK on USC's list? PC bailed, Riley turned you down, then Sark said no, Del Rio wanted no part.
so im guessing the conversation among the faculty at USC went something like this "PC bolted on us and the first 4 guys we wanted all turned us down. So who's dumb enough to come take this?" everyone looks at Mike Garrett...his response, "ill get on the phone with Kiffin"
You say this like its a bad thing to be turned down by Riley or Del Rio. Sark was never approached. I understnad why Riley said no. He has job security for years in Corvallis. Del Rio? Why would he turn down $5 mil per for the next 3 years when USC would give him no more than 3 per? No brainer. Fisher? Getting turned down by him is no insult. He'd turn Bama down.
So how bad was it for USC to be turned down by them? They didnt get turned down by assistants or guys who were coaching Duke.
Kiffin would have been high on their list if they would have known Kiffin was coming. For some reason, the media here is saying Kiffin came to USC and said what about me? I think USC admin was counting on Chow too. It took a little sting out of the hire. I thought he would be a package deal.

Why are the Trojan fans not worried about sanctions? We've been following this for 5 years. Up to this point, nothing has pointed to the program itself. I have to hear USC was directly involved. Thats why if anything, they will get punished for lack of institutional control.
Why are we happy to have Kiffin? Because we know him. He's been here during the good times and is proven. I dont like him as the head coach, but I like the fact that he's bringing Ed Orgeron, Poppa Kiffin, and Tim Davis. The head coach is only as good as his staff. This staff is great.
I dont expect anyone outside of the Trojan family to understand the excitement, but we know whats going on, and considering the fact that we lose PC, this was the next best step. Everyones familiar with him, INCLUDING the players, which is most important. The players cant wait because there's no uncertainty.

I'd be over the moon with the hiring of a coach who is 12-22. For USC fans to be happy that 12-22 record is going to have to be at least 500 by the end of next season.

Loyality means nothing these days, its all about show me the money. You wait an see, USC will turn on him in a second, if the W's go away, and schools will think twice about taking a chance with this guy, knowing he will leave on the next offer on the table. Pretty shity move on his part, but how many of us would make the same choice, if given???
