How people continue to defend this CONSISTENT LOSER is beyond me... He is not even in this spot if not a gift from the CFP gods with SMU and BOISE.... The guy across the middle was not his first option. He panicked.  Yes he was aggressive. He had plenty of time with multiple timeouts. Nothing wrong with that. You keep uninetionally proving my point.  It is hilarious.  The whole point is you have to account for the possibility that your QB who had been pooping down his leg all game might poop down his leg again when the moment is even bigger.  You don't give your incompetent QB a chance to PANIC!

    So whats the plan in Overtime? Just run run run even if that means you don't get the first down? Kick the field goal and hope your D saves the day?

I already explained this. How do people not understand that with a QB like ALLAr who had barely completed half of his passes, threw into triple coverage routinely and should have already had 2 INT if not for two bailout flags...You HAVE to consider the possibility that your quarterback has as good a chance of LOSING the game for u there as winning.  The "Play to Win the Game !" chants are so lazy and uniformed. Being aggressive isnt the only way to win a game. Especially if you are Penn State with Drew Allar. So is Penn State running the wildcat or triple option in OT since the QB is a liability?man, you really do not understand. Goodluck tho.   You just said he had a good chance of losing the game. If thats the truth, why are you putting Allar out there at all in OT. Serious question. Wow. once again have to school you i guess. BECAUSE you DON"T NEED ALLAR TO WIN IN OT!  OT gets you the chance to just ram the ball down ND's throat from inside the 25.  jeez dude...

    So if its 3rd and 15 in OT your running the ball and "hoping"?

    The reason nobody lists him is because he said he's returning to Penn St.  If he declares for the draft, he'll definitely get drafted in the first, or at least the second round.

    @AJ86

     He didn't throw the pick on 3rd and 15.  Unnecessarily put themselves in harms way.  Once its 3rd and long obviously you HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.  Thats the point. Franklin still had a choice at that point...stay alive. Live to see another day.  And he made the wrong call...

     God help the poor team that goes after Allar, let alone in the 1st round.  Yeeeesh.

    I gotta go to bed bud....It's just hard to fathom a world where people defend Franklin.  While it wasn't super egregious...it was the wrong call. In a career full of bad decisions and letdowns.

    I gotta go to bed bud....It's just hard to fathom a world where people defend Franklin.  While it wasn't super egregious...it was the wrong call. In a career full of bad decisions and letdowns.

    No need for penn st to force a throw, under pressure to the middle of the field. Play conservative. Plenty of time. They could’ve run the ball for another 10 yard gain or thrown a 5 yard out with nd playing prevent there. But that’s on the QB. Bad decision that cost him the most important game he’ll ever live through

    How many picks did Allar throw up until that point in the game? In the playoffs?

    You had to get 50 yards in 37 seconds with 2 time outs.

    You put your qb on the field because you expect him to make the right decision and he gives you the best chance to win with the factors I laid out above. The play didn't work. You throw it out of bounds. He panicked. Its on Allar. Of course the coach is going to say its on him. Thats what good coaches who care about their players do. They take the bullet for the team.

    I'm not debating you that Franklin has made bonehead decisions in his career. We can agree on that.

    But this is totally on Allar for giving the game away.

    @Jimmy_Cats
     Drew Allar drafted in the first round? I hope not. He’ll be a 2nd or 3rd stringer qb, at best, in the nfl. May be starting in the CFL though

    He threw two that game...He got bailed out by flags.  He threw two terrible balls that would have been intercepted regardless or either flag. It's on Franklin....he strated chucking too early and too far into his own territory.  James Franklin is the GOAT.

    Oh now we are going to count Int's that didn't actually happen. The first one was a penalty. The second was not. Were they bad throws? Absolutely. But it doesn't matter. They were wiped away.

    Too far in his own territory? He was on the 28. Bud you are grasping at straws at this point.

    I didn't have anyone in this game. This isn't on Franklin though. Everyone forgets they were down 17-10 and then reeled off 14 straight to take the lead.

    Right starting a drive from your own 28 with 40 seconds with a terrible qb is a +EV move....an INT not only ruins your chance at the W in regulation BUT pretty much seals the deal for ND.  Its different than if you're at your 45....

    I win! This was a drubbing....

    You are in the minority here...

    Some serious Monday morning quarterbacking going on here.  Franklin did what every other coach would have done in that situation.  Under a minute left bad field position, run the ball on first down.  They did that.  You get stuffed, play for OT.  You get a good run, which they did (first down stops the clock), you go for the FG.  No coach is gonna run the clock out there after a good run and getting into decent field position.

    Lol you are on your opponents 25 yard line and not your own 30. It’s a completely different call.
