I'm not a huge futures bettor because I think they are sucker bets for the most part.  That said I will usually make a futures bet or two on plays I have confidence in as long as I can get plus odds.  Last season I made two futures bets and I hit them both - Georgia to win the SEC East, and Alabama to win the national championship.  This what I'm on this season.

Florida to win the SEC East +350

Oregon to win the PAC 12 championship +106

Alabama to win the national championship +350

I also locked in the Washington State ML at +395

I like Bama to win this game by more than 2 TDs also, but was hesitant to pull the trigger.... I feel like with all the time they had to prep for D. Robinson, they should be able to contain him and force him to pass and make mistakes causing a few turnovers... Yes, this is an all-in strategy on Alabama in week 1.  I would say my confidence in that play is 95%.

I hope you're right.  They definitely should control this game from start to finish.  I just hope they stay UNDER the number in the first half.

I agree.  I really don't see how the game will be competitive in the end.

I will not be going to the game.  I'm kind of glad in a way with the weather being what it is.  I'm glad I don't have to worry about traveling through this crap.

I'm not crazy about Georgia Tech at all.  I have a policy on never betting on an option team when, as in this case, a good defense has had extra time to prepare.  I might take a stab at a 1st half UNDER, however, if I can get 24.

It's a great question, and I take no offense to it whatsoever.

The good thing about that strategy is that it solves one of the biggest pitfalls of gambling - discipline.  As you have discovered, I do not follow this betting paradigm.

Some bettors don't have favorite plays.  They grade all of their plays the same.  I'm not that way.  If I have a game I really like I'm not afraid to go heavy on it.  If you do that, just don't get carried away with it.  For example, I only had one "Max Bet" game all of last season.  I usually don't have more than two or three of them in a given season, so I'm very selective in the games that I bet large.  As long as you hit those large bets, the benefit is you don't have to hit as high of a percentage overall to be profitable.

As I said, my goal is to make as much money as I can.  To do that I think you have to take some "controlled" shots at the bookie.  Again don't go crazy.  What I do is bet 3-5 Units on my favorite game ("Best Bet").  Then I will include that game in a 2 or 3-team parlay for 1 Unit.  If my "Best Bet" game hits then I will make 2-4 Units minimum.  If the parlay hits too then obviously the payout is much larger.  Obviously if the "Best Bet" game is a loser, then I lose both bets.

When I have a "Max Bet" game, I consider that game a win for betting purposes.  What I mean by that is I consider a 2-team parlay that includes my "Max Bet" game as a straight bet, a 3-team parlay as a 2-team parlay and so on.  My rationale is if I have a game that I know will win, then why would a straight bet another game I like.  I may as well parlay it with a known winner to dramatically increase my earnings.

That's how I do it.  You should do what you're comfortable with.  Whatever you do, stay within yourself financially so you can recover from losses.

I know you are an authority on Bama and clearly you know your stuff. But you are emotionally tied into this team . Not saying you are wrong because of it, they have been so good and win so many games that its hard to go wrong - they are my favorite team as well and have made money on them for a few years but I am inclined to go with Michigan and the points..

- Richardson is gone and that is really the biggest loss in my view..
He really carried Bama's Offense and was the reason they were champions. At least that is the way I see it..

All the talk is on Bama's D and Mich's O but what about Mich D? They have outstanding Linebackers and a really good secondary 

I really like Mich + 21 in a teaser

Good luck freak, I think Bama swallows up Michigan. I don't know if you know many Michigan homers, but I'm surrounded by them and those arrogant/idiotic fools all bet me and only asked for 7 points!!!!  I've also got a big bet on Michigan UNDER 9 wins for the season, so I'll obviously be rooting hard for Bama.  But I sure do love my Bama -7 (+100) wager !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think of the Wazzu play sort of like buying a lottery ticket.  BYU is a very mature, senior-laden team that should be able to push Wazzu around in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and they should win this game.  That's why they are favored by almost 2 TDs.  I get all of that.

On the flip side we have the ultimate wild card in Mike Leach.  He's installing a new system at Wazzu, and by all accounts the offense has looked very good in camp, albeit it against Wazzu's pathetic defense.  If that offense finds its rhythm against a slow and not very athletic defense, I think Wazzu will be in the game until the end, and with 4 to 1 odds, that's a lottery ticket I'll take a shot on.

Jimmy, What do you think the final score will be in the
Mich/Bama game.? While I think Bama will win by 17,
I'm wondering what you think how many Mich. will score.

I decided to only play 4 games on Saturday, and I was torn between Ohio State and West Virginia.  Win the line about the same on both games, in the end I think I have more faith in West Virginia's ability to score points than I do Ohio State's.  Don't get me wrong, I still think the Buckeyes probably get the cover, but in the final analysis I'm going to ride with the 2nd year coaching staff over a first year coaching staff.
