Yeah, our BOR moved it up to basically say screw you to the state legislature. One member of the state legislature has insinuated that they would consider the idea of cutting state funding. This is a complete bluff on their part as a) they can't cut it without the governor's buy-off (who is an Aggie) and b) A&M is ranked as one of the top 25 public universities in the nation. The state isn't going to do anything that could jeopardize that.

The aggie move to the sec is a done deal...honestly; I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing for The University of Texas. The Aggies have been lusting for the SEC since 1990. I remember the summer of 1990 when we were all still party of the SWC. Texas fans/grads wanted to go to the PAC 10 and A&M fans/grads wanted to go the SEC. I think it is a tradition (A&M's traditions are deep south and military based). We Texas (or T-Sips) as they call us would feel more comfortable tailgating with the Stanford's, UCLA's and Cal-Berkeley's than the Ole Miss, South Carolina and Miss St crowd...
I think if A&M will be happy in the SEC, then they should go. Texas will be ok and we will thrive whether we go to the PAC 10, rebuild the Big XII or go independent...Personally, I think Texas, along with OU, Texas Tech, and Ok St will go to the Pac 10 if not next season, then soon...I think this is a potential win win for everyone (sparing maybe the Baylor's, Kansas, Kansas St and Iowa St). Contrary, to what you hearing from the overzealous Aggies, Texas is not too concerned with not having A&M in our conference. The Texas game was always the biggest game of the year for the Aggie faithful. For Texas, it has always been OU, and that always pissed the Aggies off...
I think OU, Tech, and Ok St have enough sense to see that they can benefit from staying with Texas...All four of those programs could play for the BCS or NC on any given year. In my opinion, Texas A&M will have a hard time winning half their games in the SEC West. Finally, I admit, Texas A&M is solid academically (they will be 2nd ranked only to Vandy based on academic perception in the SEC.). SEC Football may be the best, but its like NASCAR in my opinion with regard to regard to integrity. I think a NASCAR legend once said, "if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'"...A&M has been in the Big XII Conference with relatively high academic and ethical stands. The bar will be lowered for them in the SEC. In my opinion, and the opinion of a lot Texas fans/grads, for A&M to be competitive in the SEC, they may have to sell their soul and make some downward adjustments on academic qualifications for their athletic programs, and their alumni et al may be prone to cheat, which is the perception by those of us outside of the SEC...

Virginia Tech will NEVER join the SEC they know that their best chance of a BCS title is as a member of the ACC.
Virginia Tech has been near the top of everyone's lists as a possible SEC expansion target in the east, but athletics director Jim Weaver thinks the school would "politely decline" an offer from the SEC. The reasons? Because nearly every ACC school is a bus trip away and it's the conference the school has always wanted to be in. He also says that no one from the SEC has contacted the school yet.
For me Virginia Tech in the SEC would be like a turd in the punchbowl.![]()
Every reliable source is saying that it will be TA&M in the west and FSU in the east. I can't believe that the SEC would stop at 14, although that would seem like the perfect number. If they do go to 16 my bet would be on Missouri in the west and either N.C.State or West Virginia in the east.

I would say yes. Our school's President has informed all the coaches of the move. The official release hasn't come out yet, so I won't say 100% until that happens, but basically it is done.

Nothing new really. I've been saying that since last season when they gave the NCAA the middle finger and played him in the Georgia game. I have no idea what the timing of the events will be, but when the NCAA finishes their investigation, I feel very confident that this will be the largest cheating scandal in NCAA history - something I've also been saying since last November. The gullitine is nigh for the Auburn program.

I'll take SMU -240 to maintain it's title of "largest scandall in NCAA history" no matter what we eventually find out about Newton.
And, the SEC will expand. Might not be today. Might not be next week. But, we'll see an expanded SEC

This is not necessarily true. The SEC HAS NOT voted on the entry/invitation of A&M to the SEC. And they will not do so until A&M is out of their current conference obligations. The SEC will not extend an invitation to any school that could result in some sort of law suit. There are many factors that ppl aren't realizing. The SEC presidents met with Slive this weekend, discussed possible expansion of the SEC, but I repeat there was NO VOTE conducted as it would have been premature.

Really? The SEC called you and told you that?

Thanks for keeping me updated. But the people on the board of the SEC are not in the direct know on this matter. If they are being told that its so they will keep their mouths shut. There is too much at stake here to let everybody know whats going on. The SEC can get themselves into legal trouble with all the media outlets spewing out useless info.

At this point, one thing I feel confident in saying is that TAMU will leave the Big 12-2 after this year most likely, but no later than after 2012-2013. The BOR voted yesterday unanimously to give the school's president complete authority to make any conference decisions. This is huge as it gives one person the ability to make a decision quickly if needed.
Right now, there are some legal things to work through, namely any penalty TAMU would have to pay by leaving the conference, but I expect those to be handled relatively quickly.
I have seen a few others say this, but the SEC did not vote against A&M. They basically voted to avoid the threat of a tortious interference lawsuit by the Big 12-2. Think about it though, why would the Presidents all need to meet in Atlanta so urgently to talk about keeping the status quo? They are prepared to make a move should A&M become a free agent so to speak.
Also, look for A&M to apply for membership to the Big 10+2 and the Pac 12 as well, although I expect those applications to be pulled if/when the SEC accepts A&M's application.

"A&M president R. Bowen Loftin is in negotiations with the SEC, and privately A&M hopes to announce a move by Sept. 1, and begin play in the new league by 2012."
Starting to become reality, probably just need to work out the legal junk.
A&M possibly waiting for LSU to pay the 400k before they come over.

Baylor has lawyered up.
quote:
A source close to the A&M side of the discussions told GigEm247 that it’s Baylor that is threatening the most legal action against Texas A&M should the Aggies choose to leave for the SEC. And that it’s the SEC’s fear of that legal actions that is helping to slow things down.
quote:
If the national media is amazed that a barely-over .500 team in the last ten years could be the center of attention, they should be bewildered by the fact that one of the consistently worst teams in a BCS conference might be the reason the Aggies are being held up.
Baylor president Ken Starr wrote an op-ed piece in the USA Today yesterday titled "College Athletics Becoming Embarrassment." At best, his piece can be described as a thinly veiled plea of desperation.
And it's ironic that the president of the Big 12's lone private insitution, immune to the Freedom of Information Act, would call out others for their lack of transparency, saying that "Too much has gone on for too long behind closed doors. It is time for transparency and accountability in the operation of America's collegiate athletic conferences."
