Penn State other than Vegas has them as an unranked favorite over a ranked team? Seems like people dont even cap these games, just look at the unranked fave vs ranked team. Even if Cook is out....

    Anyone?

The lines are really sharp in those matchups.

This past week there was 2 unraked favorites that lost to the ranked underdogs.

Oh sorry I read your previous post wrong. Yeah, you are correct. And to go off of that, Iowa was 2 pt underdogs to unranked NW a week ago with Tyler cook out and still rolled.

I think you are looking at this game wrong. Tell me why anyone should like Iowa? Missing best player and on the road?? Are they really a top 25 team? On a neutral coirt theres no way they would only be a dog or pick em to 20ish teams.....Dont let a ranking lead you to believe a team is better than they are. They got whooped on the road at purdue and mich st....yes, they beat Neb and OSU (i bet on Iowa).....Let your eyes and experience guide you, not sports writers.  Of course Iowa can win this game, i mean PSU is 7-10 and have lost 4 straight. However, the linemakers are telling you that tonight Penn St is the better team. Do you believe them and experience, or trust Iowa on the road and the guys that rank teams?

So your reasoning is because the odds makers make Iowa a favorite?

So your reasoning is because the odds makers make Penn State a favorite?

    I mean Penn State sorry

I am not saying Iowa is the right pick. Just wondering other than the odds makers making them a favorite, reasoning to bet Penn State.

    On another note:

Penn State is 2-8-2 ATS in their L11 overall and 1-5 in L6 home games. Penn state also 1-5 ATS in their L6 vs the big 10 and 0-4-1 ATS in last wed games (fwiw on that stat)

Bro...you ask that question as if it's not based in reality or as if his statement has questionable validity...

The books and line makers have information...algorithms...and steam WE don't have access to...

The absolute FIRST thing you need to respect in sports betting is where that line is set by them when it comes out...

not to mention Watkins and Stevens both dominated in the two matchups last year. No reason to expect different tonight. Iowa will need to shoot the lights out to win this one IMO, possible but ill roll with state.

The first issue is that Iowa isn't actually ranked team.

You know that the AP poll isn't a legitimate measure of a team's strength/weakness. It's voted on by a collection of lazy beat writers, most of whom scroll through box scores once a week and submit a ballot.

Here's where Iowa stands in the actual metrics:

    KenPom: #34
    Haslametrics: #40
    Sagarin: #37
    ESPN BPI: #33
    NCAA NET: #30

So you have the (approximately) 35th ranked team in the country travelling to the (approximately) 65th ranked team in the country. That's not much of a gap, and it's reduced by another 3-4 points when allocating for home court advantage.
