FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Anthony Johnson picked up the Connecticut 6 Player of the Week award after leading the Fairfield University men's basketball team to a 2-1 week. The center averaged 16.3 points and 10 rebounds per contest over the three-game stretch.
The senior opened the week with eight points and 11 rebounds in a win against Canisius College. He came back with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Marist, his eighth double-double of the season. Johnson shot 58 percent from the field in that game, a number which he surpassed against Iona.
Johnson netted 25 points with eight rebounds against Iona, hitting 10 of 15 shots from the floor for a .667 field goal percentage. He also made all five of his free throws and added one steal in the game.
For the week, Johnson shot 51 percent from the floor (19 of 37) and 79 percent from the free throw line (11 of 14). With the two wins, the Stags improved to 14-7 overall and 8-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
The Connecticut 6 consists of Central Connecticut State University, Fairfield University, University of Hartford, Quinnipiac University, Sacred Heart University, and Yale University.
