Florida State vs Notre Dame picks and predictions for October 10

It's been a long layoff for Ian Book and Notre Dame, but it may not matter as the Fighting Irish welcome a massively-disappointing Florida State squad to South Bend on Saturday.

Everyone loves a carousel. You hop on a small, fake pony. You go round and round at a delightful speed. You feel the breeze in your face. Then you close your eyes, pretend you’re galloping atop the legendary Secretariat and imagine yourself crossing the finish line first at the Kentucky Derby. We’ve all been there.

But there’s one carousel that no one enjoys — the quarterback carousel. College football betting fans have watched Florida State ride this carousel so often this season that 'Noles fans are ready to jump off and vomit while remembering the days when they didn’t have to rally to beat Jacksonville State. What a rush!

Florida State is now starting its third quarterback this year and just in time for a trip to South Bend. Here are our best NCAA picks and predictions for Florida State vs. No. 5 Notre Dame, scheduled for 7:30 ET on Saturday, October 10.

Florida State Seminoles vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish betting preview

It’s won’t exactly be carnival weather in South Bend on Saturday night. It’s going to be chilly with a high of 52 degrees and winds out of the north-northeast at 5 mph. Be sure to monitor the gametime conditions with our NCAA football weather info.

Betting trend to know

The Seminoles are 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a SU win. Find more NCAA football betting trends for Florida State vs. Notre Dame.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

James Blackman entered the year as Florida State’s starting quarterback, but when he was ineffective against Miami, Tate Rodemaker got the call for the Seminoles. Then, with Rodemaker and the Noles trailing Jacksonville State 14-0 last Saturday, it became Jordan Travis’ turn. Finally, someone delivered: Travis went 12 of 17 for 210 yards and a touchdown, leading FSU to a 41-24 comeback victory. FSU also rushed for 263 yards and five scores.

Notre Dame has had plenty of time to rest, but they didn’t exactly need it after crushing South Florida 52-0 back on September 19. There’s no question who runs the show for the Irish — it’s Ian Book’s team, and he made easy work of the Bulls, rushing for three touchdowns while passing for 144 yards.

Notre Dame will be coming off a three-week break, so the Irish being rusty is the only way I see the Seminoles keeping it close. Florida State may have found its starting quarterback, but it takes more than just a good showing against an FCS school to secure the job.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame -20.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

The Under has hit in 12 of Notre Dame’s last 18 games, and that’s where the early action came in, dropping the total down from 55 to 52.

It may take the Irish a bit to get going in this game, so I’ll follow the trend and the money.

PREDICTION: Under 52 (-110)

Team total pick

The Irish have allowed a combined 13 points over two games, and now they have tape of Travis under center. The sophomore will quickly learn that Notre Dame is not Jacksonville State, and that means the carousel ride might not be over for the Seminoles.

PREDICTION: Florida State team total Under 14.5 (-138)
