Stampeders vs Alouettes Prediction, Picks & Odds for CFL Week 17

The spread went from Alouettes -1.5 to -3.5 after QB Davis Alexander was announced as returning to active duty. The shift isn't scaring us off Montreal, as it should handle the floundering Stampeders at home.

Davis Alexander returns to the Montreal Alouettes for their pivotal Week 17 showdown against the Calgary Stampeders on Friday, September 26.

The return of their starting quarterback has moved the Als from -1.5 to -3.5 on the spread, and my Stampeders vs. Alouettes predictions and CFL picks are following that line movement.

Stampeders vs Alouettes prediction

My Stampeders vs Alouettes pick: Alouettes -3.5 (-120 at BET99)

Davis Alexander hasn't played since July 17, when he threw for 303 yards against the Argos. The Montreal Alouettes struggled in his absence but are coming off back-to-back wins with backup McLeod Bethel-Thompson under centre.

Alexander is 8-0 as a starter in his career, he was one of the MOP front-runners before landing on the IR. This is the healthiest the Als have been all year, with their secondary and WR corps at full strength after dealing with multiple injuries for much of the season.

The Calgary Stampeders are on a two-game skid, losing 31-19 to the last-place Elks in Week 14 before getting clobbered by the Lions last week. Stamps QB Vernon Adams Jr. is playing through a back injury and has struggled, posting a passer rating of just 74.1 across his last three contests.

Meanwhile, their defense has gotten pumped in the last two games, missing end Folarin Orimolade, who suffered a season-ending injury in Week 14. I'll lay the points with the home side that has the momentum and is getting back its starting QB.

Stampeders vs Alouettes same-game parlay (SGP)

Alternate Spread Alouettes -2.5

Over 50.5

Let's adjust the Alouettes spread below that key number of 3.0 in this same-game parlay.

Some books have moved this line by as many as four points in Montreal's direction upon the news that Alexander would return. While that spread has shifted, the total has stayed steady at 50.5.

That's surprising since Adams was questionable at the start of the week, but has now been confirmed as available. Both teams will have their starting QBs, and both defenses have regressed over the last few weeks, which has me leaning towards the Over.
