Where is the Turkish Grand Prix taking place?

The Turkish Grand Prix is hosted at Istanbul Park and returned to F1 in 2020, after nine years off the calendar. Famously, last year, drivers had to deal with a fresh track which led to slippery and unpredictable conditions. Ahead of this year's Grand Prix the track has been water-blasted in an attempt to improve conditions, but Friday's practice will tell us all we need to know about the success of that plan, after last year's first practice session saw cars spinning all over the circuit.

While it's not a particularly wide circuit, there are still several spots for overtaking due to a combination of high-speed corners and technically difficult turns. With drivers able to go flat-out on the throttle through turn 11 into the second DRS zone, we could see some bold, lunging overtakes into the braking zone at turn 12.

F1 Turkish Grand Prix tips and picks

Before last-minute rain over the track changed everything, the Russian Grand Prix was simply about damage control for Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who began the race at the back of the grid due to a new power unit. Verstappen and Red Bull simply wanted to limit the point swing expected in Lewis Hamilton's favor but instead, the rain came and Hamilton ended up with Verstappen on the step next to him, as the two title contenders finished first and second.

We're anticipating a similar situation in Instanbul this weekend, where Hamilton and Mercedes are strongly considering using a fourth engine and thus taking the same grid penalty taken by Verstappen last time out. Should that happen, the goal for Hamilton will be to make up as many places as possible and, toward the end of the race, gunning for the fastest lap and the extra point that comes with it.

Even if Hamilton and Mercedes don't take the new engine this weekend, we're happy to back him to take fastest lap at a track he has twice won at, including by over 30 seconds last season.

After suffering the most devastating moment of his young career in Sochi, Lando Norris can rebound and earn the podium he lost at the Russian Grand Prix in Turkey.

With the potential for rain on Saturday and Sunday, there's the possibility of either or both sessions being thrown upside down in chaos. However, Norris has typically qualified well even in the rain, as he was on pace to take pole in Belgium before a crash ended the session, then did qualify first at the Russian Grand Prix. With the fourth-best average qualifying position this season, Norris is likely to position himself high up the grid for the Grand Prix whether we have rain or clear conditions on Saturday.

Norris acquitted himself well during last year's Turkish Grand Prix, in a race in which very few drivers impressed. A grid penalty from qualifying pushed Norris all the way down to 14th, then a poor start saw him drop further, but he then got to work and ended up finishing eighth, as well as earning the fastest lap. Both Norris and his McLaren are improved from last year, and with a better grid position from the start, he will turn that into a spot on the podium.

Last year, Verstappen looked like he was the man to beat at Istanbul Park, as he topped all three practice sessions and the first two qualifying sessions before he was edged for pole by a phenomenal lap from Lance Stroll. A poor strategical decision from Red Bull caused both Red Bull drivers, as well as both AlphaTauri drivers, to lose places off the start but Verstappen was then a man on a mission slowed only by a wild spin that was the result of an impatient overtake attempt in the rain. While the weekend was remembered for Hamilton's heroic win, it was one dominated by Verstappen.

Now the Red Bull driver will look for redemption in an improved car and in the title hunt, just two points behind Hamilton. It's a circuit that favors the Red Bull car compared to Mercedes, and Hamilton may be out of it completely should he take a new engine. Verstappen has taken six poles this season, compared to four for Hamilton, and has been the better driver throughout the season. At +175 to top both days, compared to -138 to win on Sunday, we love the value here.

How to bet on Formula 1

The most popular way to bet on Formula 1 odds is by simply picking the winner of a particular race. Other popular F1 betting options include on which car/constructor will win and whether or not a particular race car driver will end up on the podium with a Top-3 finish.

F1 race odds usually look like this:

  • Sebastian Vettel +650

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $650 if Vettel wins that particular race. If one driver is especially dominant, you might see a minus sign (-) ahead of that driver's odds like this:

  • Lewis Hamilton -175

This means that you would need to bet $175 to win $100 on Hamilton winning the race.
