The world's biggest tournament kicks off in mere days, and analysts are projecting more than $2.8 billion will be bet on the 2026 World Cup in the U.S. and $60 billion globally.

With an expanded field of 48 teams and 104 matches, there will be plenty of opportunities for bettors to stake their strongest positions.

Mexico hosts South Africa in the tournament opener Thursday, and festivities will conclude July 19 with the final in New York.

Who would have thought? Two of the biggest bets on the World Cup to date, are on Haiti to win it all. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.

It will be Haiti's first trip to the World Cup since the island nation made its only other appearance in 1974.

Haiti is positioned in Group C with Brazil, Morocco, and Scotland. Les Grenadiers share the longest odds to win the tournament with Curacao and Jordan.
