Valkyries vs Mystics Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Without Kayla Thornton, the Valkyries offense has dried up, and the team has had to rely more pointedly on defense to win games. The Mystics don't light opponents up at the best of times and may have a hobbled Shakira Austin.

If the Golden State Valkyries want to crack the WNBA playoffs in Year 1, they’ll have to hold their own against teams desperate to catch them.

That’s the case tonight, as the 7-seed visits the 10th-seeded Washington Mystics.

With key players on both sides either hurt or traded away, our Valkyries vs. Mystics predictions and WNBA picks are targeting the Under on Wednesday, August 13.

Valkyries vs Mystics predictions

My Valkyries vs Mystics best bet: Under 148.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

The Golden State Valkyries have held both the LA Sparks and Connecticut Sun to under 60 points in back-to-back wins.

It’s not like they have a choice, though. Since all-star Kayla Thornton went down with a knee injury on July 25, Golden State hasn’t scored more than 77 points in a single game. Thornton is out again tonight.

While their 72.1 scoring average over the last eight is second-worst in the league, the Washington Mystics aren't the ones to take advantage, as they’re the third-lowest scoring team behind the Valkyries at 78.1 points – even after dumping Dallas 91-78 last game.

Washington’s trade deadline deals included moving leading scorer Brittney Sykes to Seattle, building around budding rookies Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron.

If Shakira Austin (leg) – the team’s No. 3 scorer – is not close to 100% even if she does play, we’re looking at something close to the 68-67 slugfest that the Valkyries took on July 31.

Look for these teams at the bottom of the playoff picture to cash the Under for a third straight meeting.

Valkyries vs Mystics same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 148.5

Kiki Iriafen Under 12.5 points

Veronica Burton Over 4.5 assists

Iriafen is coming off a career-best 23 points in 23 minutes in Washington’s win over Dallas.

She’s cracked 20+ points in three of her last six, but Golden State has shut her down in two previous matchups, holding her to 10 points in each.

For the Valkyries, Veronica Burton is Top 10 in assists at 5.2 per game with a gettable 4.5 line against the Mystics.

She’s topped this total in both previous matchups and in four of her last six games overall.
