The New York Liberty will look to break a two-game losing streak as they host the expansion Portland Fire on Monday night.

New York has struggled to integrate its stars as they return from injury, and I’m backing Portland to cover in my Fire vs. Liberty predictions.

Let’s break down tonight’s game as I share my free WNBA picks for Monday, May 25.

Fire vs Liberty prediction

Fire vs Liberty best bet: Fire +12.5 (-110)

The New York Liberty have gotten Satou Sabally and Sabrina Ionescu back from injury in the last week. They’ve struggled to integrate their stars, however, losing two straight games at home by double-digit margins.

New York’s net rating is just +3.6, not a number that leads to a lot of blowout wins.

The Portland Fire already have one win against the Liberty this year. They have a low turnover percentage of 16.8%, which will keep them in games by limiting extended runs from their opponents.

I’m backing the Fire as long as this spread stays at 10+ points.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Liberty have had trouble getting easy buckets this year, shooting 56.4% on two-point field goals, the second-lowest mark in the WNBA.

Fire vs Liberty same-game parlay

The Fire and Liberty have played twice this season, and both games easily hit the Over, with an average total of 188 points in those contests. If anything, there’s even more offensive talent on the floor now with the return of Sabally and Ionescu, so the Over is an easy include for me in my SGP.

I’m also backing Portland forward Bridget Carleton (16.5 ppg) to hit her scoring Over tonight.

Carleton lit up the Liberty for 26 points in their first meeting and has scored 15+ points in each of her last three games. The Fire are leaning on the veteran Carleton as their top scoring option, and I see that continuing tonight.

Fire vs Liberty SGP

  • Fire +12.5
  • Over 176.5
  • Bridget Carleton Over 14.5 points

Fire vs Liberty first basket scorer: Satou Sabally (+550)

The Liberty showed that they’re going to work hard to get Sabally (and Ionescu) into a rhythm early yesterday, as she took and made the first shot of the game while scoring five points in the first two minutes.

Sabally looked far more comfortable in her second game back from injury, and has become a reliable scorer as this stage of her career, averaging 16+ ppg in each of her last three seasons.

New York may well try to get her started early with a quick bucket again today, and that makes her a great first basket bet at a +550 payout.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
