It’s been a tough grind for the 9-9 Indiana Fever through the first two months of the season, but they can turn the page today with Caitlin Clark poised to return to the court against the Golden State Valkyries.

All eyes will be on Clark in her first outing since June 24, but my Valkyries vs. Fever predictions expect another Indiana guard to grab some of the spotlight against a Golden State team that’s been a pleasant surprise.

Take a closer look at this July 9 clash with my free WNBA picks below.

Valkyries vs Fever predictions

My Valkyries vs Fever best bet: Kelsey Mitchell Over 17.5 points (-104 at FanDuel)

At last, we may get a stretch of games to fully savour this super-charged Indiana Fever offense, but it’s not as if Stephanie White’s squad has been struggling on that end of the floor. The Fever have scored 80+ points in five of their last seven games — and Kelsey Mitchell has been pivotal in keeping Indiana afloat.

While Caitlin Clark’s return is the big story today, it’s the Mitchell points prop that jumps off the screen. She’s poured in 19+ points in six of her past seven contests, and now she’ll benefit from the spacing that Clark provides, opening driving lanes with fewer bodies camped in the paint. With No. 22 pulling the strings, this 17.5 O/U line undersells what Mitchell brings to the table.

Amid some eye-popping stat lines, Mitchell has been lights out from downtown lately. Across her last seven outings, she’s shot 23-for-45 from 3-point range, and that’s without Clark bending defenses with her own sharpshooting. If anything, Mitchell’s 19.3 points per game average could climb in the weeks ahead.

The Fever will also surely treat Clark’s return with caution, so Mitchell’s usage and minutes load should both remain high. She’s nailed this Over in her last six games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and there’s more home cooking on the menu this afternoon.

Will Caitlin Clark play today?

She’s baaack! Caitlin Clark is set to return today after missing five games with a groin injury.

Valkyries vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)

Kelsey Mitchell Over 17.5 points

Natasha Howard Over 5.5 rebounds

Under 165.5

Natasha Howard has been relentless on the glass lately for Indiana alongside Aliyah Boston, and I expect that to continue today. Howard has finished with 9+ boards in four straight games, so the Over on 5.5 rebounds is an easy add for my SGP.

I’ll take the Under, too, with the Fever adjusting to Clark’s return. That’s been a winning ticket in six of Golden State’s past nine contests, and only the Connecticut Sun have a lower 3-point percentage than the Valkyries (30%).
