Sun vs Fever Predictions, Picks & Best Bet for Tonight’s WNBA Game

The Connecticut Sun are hands down the worst team in the WNBA, and as Ed Scimia explains, a trip to Indiana to take on Caitlin Clark and Co. will do them no favors.

The Indiana Fever will look to capitalize on the return of Caitlin Clark as they host the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse tonight.

My Sun vs. Fever predictions note that Connecticut has had trouble just keeping things close of late, which is why my WNBA picks for Tuesday, June 17, are taking Indiana to cover this large spread.

Sun vs Fever predictions

My Sun vs Fever best betFever -17.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

The Indiana Fever survived five games without Caitlin Clark, going 2-3 while she recovered from a left quadriceps strain. Yet there’s no doubt that this is a different team with its young leader on the court, as evidenced in Indiana’s 102-88 victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday.

That’s the kind of offensive performance that will play against any opponent, and which could lead to blowout wins over the bottom of the league. That’s the situation facing Indiana tonight, as they face off against the Connecticut Sun.

Connecticut has had a difficult time on the road this year, going just 1-4 away from home. That only win, incidentally, came against the Fever while Clark was out of the lineup. The Sun have already failed to cover once as an 18-point underdog this month in New York, and have lost five of their last nine games by 20+ points.

I’m usually loathe to give up this many points in professional basketball, but the Sun are getting blown out on a regular basis. They rank last in both offensive rating (90.3) and defensive rating (112.2), and are losing by an average of 16.9 points per game.

On the road against a powerhouse offense, I’m not sure how many points I’d need to feel confident in the Sun. Certainly, 17.5 isn’t enough, which is why I’m taking the Fever to cover.

Caitlin Clark pick: No. 22 to hit a career-high

My best bet
Caitlin Clark 36+ points + rebounds + assists (-165 at DraftKings)

My analysis
Caitlin Clark looked outstanding in her return to action on Saturday, scoring 32 points while totally eight rebounds and nine assists against New York. That should put to rest any questions over Clark’s fitness or need to ease herself back into the lineup, as she played 31 effective minutes against what might be the best team in the WNBA.

Tonight, Clark will be back in action against a much less imposing opponent in Connecticut. The Sun are allowing 88.2 ppg despite attempting to play at a relatively slow pace, and the Fever offense — when Clark is healthy — is more than capable of taking advantage of that weakness.

I’m taking Clark to hit her milestone of 36+ combined points, rebounds, and assists tonight.

Sun vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)

Fever -17.5

Over 166

Caitlin Clark 36+ points + rebounds + assists

I’m predicting a big night for the Fever, particularly on the offensive end. That has already been seen in my first two picks, which will form the core of my same-game parlay as well. We’ll start with taking the Fever to cover the 17.5-point spread, as well as again taking Clark to rack up at least 36 combined points, assists, and rebounds.

Along with these bets, I’ll also take the Over to round out my SGP.

The Indiana offense should be running at full power now with Clark at the helm, as we saw when it scored 102 points against the Liberty on Saturday night. In addition, we’ve seen Connecticut allow 100+ points in there of their last six games.

I don’t know how much the Sun will score, but the Fever offense should carry the load and get us to the Over.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
