A'ja Wilson Over 25.5 points

A’ja Wilson has already seen the Golden State Valkyries twice this season, scoring 28 points in each game. That is not an anomaly. The Las Vegas Aces superstar is playing some of the best basketball of her illustrious career, topping this points prop in five of her last eight games.

One of those exceptions came by merely the hook, and another came while scoring 24 points against the best defense in the WNBA. Really, only struggling to 18 points against the Wings last Monday was a moment when Wilson fell genuinely short, an exception proving the rule, so to speak.

Golden State does not have a defender capable of slowing down the best player available in the WNBA right now. But the Valkyries are good enough to keep things competitive, creating the sweet spot for trusting Wilson to have another strong night.

That said, raising this prop past 26.5 should start to worry any Wilson backer, despite the juice at 25.5.

Olivia Miles Over 17.5 points

Was Friday night the first bad game of Olivia Miles’ career? She went 1-of-10 from the field and still ended up a +2 in the plus/minus column of the box score.

Miles still had five rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks, including the one to seal the game. Hardly a terrible night.

Though it yet provides logic to backing Miles at the rim tonight. She should not let that terrible shooting linger in her memory. The Minnesota Lynx rookie has been too stellar this season to let one game remove the confidence instilled by her first 15.

Miles had cleared this prop in six of seven games before Friday’s dud, the exception coming due to playing only 23 minutes in a 33-point rout.

The Washington Mystics may be looking at a blowout today, but Miles should first look to see the ball go through the hoop.

Kelsey Plum Over 20.5 points

There are some moments you should simply trust one of the best scorers in the WNBA, one of the best veterans in the WNBA, and one of the most spite-driven players in the WNBA.

Kelsey Plum is an obvious bet whenever she faces her former team, the Aces. She should also be backed when facing the New York Liberty, her biggest rival while with the Aces.

Plum averaged 19.5 points last year, her first with the Los Angeles Sparks after a frustrating departure from Las Vegas. She exceeded that average in two of her three games against the Liberty.

She is averaging 25.0 points per game this year; exceeding that tonight may seem bold, but in a game hyped by the WNBA, do not doubt Plum.

Sometimes the moment simply calls for a bet. Plum against the Liberty is such a moment, especially as long as this prop stays below 22 points.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
