The New York Liberty are marching toward another banner this month, their unbeaten Commissioner’s Cup run putting the powerhouse in position to claim another. The Washington Mystics should hardly pose a speed bump in that pursuit.
Still, my Mystics vs. Liberty predictions and WNBA picks do expect New York’s focus to wander a bit on Sunday, June 14.

After scuffling to start the season, the New York Liberty defense engaged in the Commissioner’s Cup, ranking No. 2 in rating in the WNBA in the last four games, 3.3 points better per 100 possessions than it was to start the season.
Still, New York has effectively clinched a spot in the Cup final, needing to just win one of its final two games. That defense may lapse.
It did the last time these two met, the Washington Mystics scoring 85 points in regulation. Washington is itself defensively flawed. This total is simply a bucket too low.
