The Minnesota Lynx may be determined to find their floor. Their 0-4 start has barely enjoyed flashes of competitiveness, and if the Lynx do not find a win tonight, their next three outings will be against only tougher competition. Not that the Dallas Wings are slouches, as they are WNBA odds favorites against Minnesota, but this is the Lynx’s best chance at a first victory for a while. Will they pull off the upset?

Lynx vs Wings picks and predictions
Last week, this handicapper went long on the thought that Minnesota is probably not already tanking for Iowa star Caitlin Clark. The Covers.com editorial desk rightly trimmed most of those thoughts, sparing a game preview from lottery odds and explaining how the WNBA uses two-year rolling standings to determine lottery order. And here we are, two games later, and all those points are only more applicable.
The Lynx are not yet in a free fall, but a loss on the road tonight would be a significant step closer to one. Minnesota’s next three games are against three of the WNBA’s Top-4 title contenders with two of those matchups on the road. The Lynx will be decisive underdogs in the latter two of those games; Thursday’s home tilt against the Sun could possibly feature Minnesota as only a one-possession underdog if giving some credence to home-court advantage.
And all of that is not fading the Lynx strongly enough. Just last week, this handicapper suggested tonight’s spread at Dallas could be within a bucket, but here we are with the Wings favored by 5.5.
This is not the Minnesota of lore, and the math has not yet caught up with that. The narrative barely has. The Lynx have been leading or within six points of their opponents for a total of 66 minutes and 11 seconds out of a possible 160 minutes this season. But remove 40 minutes of a home loss as a favorite against the Atlanta Dream, and that falls to 26:11 out of a possible 120 minutes, with none of those coming beyond the seven-minute mark of the second quarter. Yes, Sunday brought a rout at Las Vegas, and most teams in the league will suffer that fate this year, but failing to keep up with the Sky or the Mercury is more illustrative of how bad things may get for Minnesota.
There has not been a moment that suggests the Lynx will right this ship, certainly not anytime soon.
And while Dallas may not be setting the league on fire, it is establishing itself as a possible second-tier title contender, a dark horse if looking to establish a diverse futures portfolio. In other words, the Wings are competent, and that should be all that is needed to once again hand Minnesota an outright loss along with an against-the-spread loss.

Lynx vs Wings spread and Over/Under analysis
The Wings opened as 5-point favorites on Monday before quickly ticking to -5.5 so fast that few bettors could fire on the deflated number, and by Tuesday morning, some sportsbooks were posting -6.0.
Given Minnesota has fallen short of the spread in all four of its games — by an average of 8.25 points — that -6.0 could rise further by tip. Simply enough, bookmakers are struggling to grasp how dire things have gotten for the Lynx this quickly.
Dallas has not excelled ATS early this season, going 1-2, though one of those losses came by the hook. Bookmakers have a better handle on the Wings, even if some long-term thoughts suggest buying Dallas stock.
The total opened at 167.5 and did not move but for a brief Monday stretch at 166.5 before returning to 167.5. If there is a particular reason to doubt this game reaching that modest number, it ‘s that Minnesota is shooting 38.7% from the field this season and 26.5% from three — that latter number is worst in the league. The Lynx are, plainly, this bad, even if their legacy argues otherwise.
Dallas, meanwhile, is decimal points behind the New York Liberty to lead the league in threes attempted per game, part of how the Wings have gone Over their total in all three games this season.
