Payback is the name of tonight's game as the Phoenix Mercury play host to the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever.

This will be the second time that these two teams meet in the past week, and Indiana got the last laugh in their previous contest.

Meanwhile, Phoenix is slowly but surely finding their footing, and handling a rematch like this one will prove that as I target their moneyline for my Fever vs. Mercury predictions.

Let's get into the nitty-gritty of why I'm favoring the home team in my WNBA picks for Thursday, August 7.

Fever vs Mercury predictions

My Fever vs Mercury best bet: Mercury moneyline (-180 at FanDuel)

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and that's what the Phoenix Mercury are serving to the Indiana Fever tonight.

The Fever reached their season-high in points scored in their last contest while facing Phoenix on July 30 in a 107-101 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, an impressive feat without Clark in the lineup. And as they prepare to play without her for the ninth consecutive game, this time around could pan out differently.

The Fever enter PHX Arena with their ego slightly bruised after the Los Angeles Sparks stopped them in their tracks by handing them a loss during their four-game road trip, and it's no better time than now for the Mercury to take full advantage of that.

Phoenix's Big 3 — consisting of Alyssa Thomas, Kahleah Copper, and Satou Sabally — are showing signs of clicking at the same time, which could be beneficial as the Mercury make their push to the playoffs.

Despite the up-and-down results of their recent games, the trio has managed to lead the Mercury in points, rebounds, and assists throughout their last six contests.

It all started to come together in their recent wins over the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun with Copper (25 points vs. Sky) and Sabally (23 points vs. Sun) leading the charge in scoring, with Thomas doing the work in boards and dimes.

Round 2 against Indiana can be the cherry on top of the cake to show that this Big 3 is no fluke when healthy. It was only a matter of time before the team chemistry translates to consistent wins, and the time is now.

I'm taking the Mercury straight-up to finally get over the hump against contender teams when it matters most.

Mercury moneyline

Alyssa Thomas to record a double-double

Kelsey Mitchell to score 25+ points

Nobody's been hotter on the Mercury than Alyssa Thomas, so it's only right that I continue to ride her recent streak into tonight's game.

The under-the-radar MVP candidate made history after becoming the first player in WNBA history to rack up consecutive triple-doubles. Those stacked stat lines came against the Sky and Sun and with the Fever on deck, I'm willing to take this a notch down given their defensive capabilities.

Thomas has shown that she can get double-doubles in her sleep in an effort to stave off the Atlanta Dream in the standings, who have now jumped ahead of Phoenix.

Next up, when it comes to putting a team on her back, Kelsey Mitchell has been the poster child for it in Clark's absence.

After putting up her third 30+ point game of the season in a 34-point performance against the Sparks, I'm taking her to shoot the lights out again out of pure frustration from Tuesday's loss.
