Song Yadong vs. Chris Gutierrez is the main event for UFC Fight Night betting on Saturday, December 9 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. This should be a banger between a pair of dynamic strikers. Song is the No. 7 ranked bantamweight contender and will face Gutierrez, who moved up to No. 15 after picking up a win just two months ago.

UFC odds opened with Song as a -340 favorite and have shifted to -400 with Gutierrez coming back at +300. Here are my best free UFC Fight Night: Song vs. Gutierrez picks and predictions for December 9.

Song vs Gutierrez picks

Fight prediction: Song Yadong

Gutierrez certainly has a path to victory in this bout since he does an excellent job of using leg kicks while Song has a boxing-heavy stance. Song has also shown he can get tagged with high kicks when he lost to Kyler Phillips a couple of years ago, and Gutierrez's kicks have no limit.

That said, this is a huge step up in competition for Gutierrez whose only ranked opponent has been Pedro Munhoz who he lost to earlier this year. His best wins have likely been against Vince Morales (who went 3-6 in the octagon before getting cut from the UFC) and a washed-up Frankie Edgar who promptly retired after suffering his third-straight KO loss.

On the other hand, Song has been in battles against some of the top fighters in this division and has come out on top. He's faster and hits harder than Gutierrez, and that combined with his experience in five-round fights should lead to a victory here. However, this line is a tad too steep to consider Song on the moneyline so look elsewhere for value.

Prediction: Song Yadong moneyline (-395 at DraftKings)

Fight best bet: Song by KO/TKO

Gutierrez doesn't have a single takedown in his last five fights while Song has just two in his previous nine. Add in the scrambling ability and solid defensive wrestling both fighters possess, and this'll be a fight that stays standing up.

As a striking battle between two guys with power, volume, and precision, I don't see this bout going the fully scheduled 25 minutes. Although Gutierrez has never been finished in his career, he's rarely faced someone at Song's caliber of striking. The closest was Munhoz and he knocked down Gutierrez in the opening round.

Song has dynamite in his hands with his last three hands coming by way of KO/TKO and I expect him to swarm Gutierrez and finish him here.

Pick: Song by KO/TKO (+130 at bet365)

Song vs Gutierrez betting preview

Song Yadong is coming off a fifth-round knockout win against Ricky Simon which allowed him to bounce back from a loss to Cory Sandhagen. Song is 9-2-1 in the UFC with six performance bonuses on his resume.

Despite just turning 26 years old, Song has been fighting professionally since 2013 and made his promotional debut with a first-round finish of Bharat Khandare in 2017. He's a highly-technical boxer with quick hands and excellent footwork.

Chris Gutierrez is fresh off a decision win against Alateng Heili in October, allowing him to bounce back from that decision loss to Munhoz earlier this year. Despite taking the L against Munhoz, Gutierrez outstruck him in every round and connected on an impressive 57% of his significant strikes while Munhoz landed at a 34% rate.

Gutierrez is 8-1-1 in his last 10 trips to the octagon, with that defeat to Munhoz and a draw against Cody Durden in 2020 the only black marks during that stretch. The 32-year-old is a fluid striker who uses punches and kicks to every level and is comfortable at all ranges. He lands 5.04 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 2.73.
