Following a tough loss to open the season, Temple aims to get into the win column Saturday against visiting Stony Brook. The Owls gave up 329 rushing yards in Week 1 as they were toppled by visiting Army 28-13 following the school's first 10-win season since 1979.

Temple coach Matt Rhule was understandably upset about the loss to Army, which went 2-10 in 2015. "They just dominated us," Rhule told reporters. "They literally just knocked us off the ball." Sharif Finch was one of the bright spots for the Owls last week as he blocked his fifth career punt - most among active NCAA players. Still, Temple is clearly looking for a more complete effort against a Stony Brook squad that topped North Dakota in its season opener.

ABOUT STONY BROOK (1-0): The Seawolves used a blocked punt returned for a touchdown to nip North Dakota 13-9 in their Week 1 contest. Stony Brook averaged 1.8 yards per carry, Joe Carbone was 16-of-32 for 159 yards and the team finished with 211 yards of total offense, but it proved to be enough to prevail in the ugly affair. Stony Brook has won four straight games, dating to last season, yielding a total of 27 points in those four outings.

ABOUT TEMPLE (0-1): Adding injury to insult, Temple will be without standout running back Jahad Thomas, who will miss his second straight game with a thumb injury, as well as tight end Colin Thompson and defensive end Jacob Martin, who were injured against Army. Ryquell Armstead took Thomas' place last week and ran for a career-high 77 yards and a touchdown. Phillip Walker became Temple's all-time passing leader against Army, although he finished with no touchdowns and three interceptions as the Owls lost despite giving up a total of 15 passing yards.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Since starting last season 7-0, Temple has lost five of its last eight games.

2. Dating back to last year, the Owls have scored 43 points in their last three outings.

3. This is the first matchup between the schools.

PREDICTION: Temple 23, Stony Brook 10
