Iowa State @ Oklahoma preview
Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
Last Meeting ( Oct 16, 2010 ) Iowa State 0, Oklahoma 52
THE STORY: A week after pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the college football season over then-No. 2 Oklahoma State, Iowa State travels to Oklahoma in search of a four-game winning streak. The No. 11 Sooners are looking to bounce back from a devastating loss themselves, a 45-38 stunner at Baylor that effectively ended their slim national title hopes. The Cyclones haven’t beaten Oklahoma in the last 12 meetings, and 11 of those losses have come by double digits. Under Bob Stoops, the Sooners have outscored Iowa State 135-6 in three home matchups. That includes a 52-0 beatdown in Norman last year that was the largest margin of victory in the series since 1946.

ABOUT IOWA STATE (6-4, 3-4 Big 12): The Cyclones needed one win against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma or Kansas State to become bowl-eligible for only the second time in the past six seasons, but their chances seemed rather hopeless. Iowa State shocked everyone, though, with a 37-31 double-overtime victory over the Cowboys to move to 1-56-2 all-time against teams ranked No. 6 or higher and sending the BCS standings into a frenzy. Junior linebacker A.J. Klein was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his 14-tackle effort in helping shut down Oklahoma State’s high-powered offense.
ABOUT OKLAHOMA (8-2, 5-2): After Oklahoma State’s loss at Iowa State, it looked like the Sooners had the inside track to the Big 12 championship and perhaps a shot in the BCS title game. But that all ended when Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III hit Terrance Williams for a 34-yard touchdown with eight seconds left to send Oklahoma to a 45-38 loss. Now the Sooners can only hope for a shared Big 12 title with Oklahoma State and possibly Kansas State, but they must beat Iowa State, and the Cowboys in the final week.
EXTRA POINTS:
1. Iowa State is 3-36 all-time in Norman.
2. The Sooners have given up an average of 43 points and 469 passing yards in their two losses.
3. Sooners quarterback Landry Jones ranks second nationally with 380 passing yards per game.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma 45, Iowa State 10 - The Sooners will get back on track, setting up a chance to share the conference title with a win at Oklahoma State next weekend.
