Cal has been the underdog twice this season, and not only covered but defeated Minnesota and Boston College outright. Now they get to host an inconsistent Duke team, who will be playing well past midnight Eastern on the other side of the country.
Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele went on the road to Boston College last week and threw for 254 yards and a pair of scores with just one pick. And he will face a Duke defense that ranks 112th in quality drive rate, 83rd in points per quality drive, 112th in pass success rate, and 96th in EPA/pass.
It’s difficult for any team to make a trip all the way across the country and perform well, and even more so when that team is prone to making mistakes and being inconsistent. Beating a Syracuse team who lost its starting quarterback against Clemson doesn’t move the needle enough for me.
