PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Esmil Rogers (6-3, 5.93 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Josh Collmenter (8-8, 3.19 ERA).
Rogers allowed four runs over 6 2/3 innings at Los Angeles on Friday en route to losing his second straight decision. The 26-year old has yielded four runs in each of his last three starts after surrendering a total of four in his previous three outings. Rogers made his only career start against Arizona on Aug. 20, 2010, when he settled for a no-decision after allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings.
Collmenter produced his seventh scoreless outing of the season Friday, allowing six hits over 5 1/3 innings in a victory over San Diego. Along with Brandon Webb's seven in 2007, it is the second-most scoreless efforts in a season by a Diamondback behind Randy Johnson's eight in 2001. The rookie Collmenter is 1-1 in three starts against Colorado this year, including a victory on July 23 in which he yielded three runs in seven innings.
ABOUT THE DIAMONDBACKS (77-59): Arizona has a chance to put a stranglehold on the division as it begins a three-game series at San Francisco on Friday. The Diamondbacks' home winning streak is their longest since winning 11 in a row from June 7-July 9, 2003. They also had an 11-game run from May 5-27, 2000. Collin Cowgill, who went 2-for-5 on Tuesday, was named the MVP of the Pacific Coast League. Cowgill batted .354 with 13 home runs and 70 RBIs in 98 games with Reno, hit for the cycle on June 7 and put together a franchise-record 17-game hitting streak.
ABOUT THE ROCKIES (64-72): Dexter Fowler's home run Tuesday was his first since the 2010 season finale at St. Louis on Oct. 3. Righthander Jason Hammel was placed on the paternity list as he left the team Tuesday to be with his wife, who is expecting the couple's first child. The Rockies filled the roster spot by recalling righthander Josh Roenicke from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Roenicke tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings over nine appearances earlier this year. Reliever Matt Belisle has allowed six runs over his last five appearances.
FINAL PITCH: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki's struggled against Arizona continued Tuesday as he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts. Tulowitzki is hitting .115 (6-for-52) vs. the Diamondbacks this season and .220 (68-for-309) over his career.
