Colorado @ Los Angeles preview
Dodger Stadium
Last Meeting ( Aug 27, 2011 ) Colorado 6, LA Dodgers 7
THE STORY: The Los Angeles Dodgers entered their series against the Colorado Rockies fresh off a three-game sweep of the Cardinals in St. Louis. Los Angeles is aiming for a second straight whitewashing when it hosts Colorado in the finale of their three-game set Sunday. The Dodgers rallied from a pair of deficits Saturday before notching their fifth straight win thanks to Matt Kemp's solo homer in the 11th. Colorado suffered its sixth loss in seven road games despite the continued surge of Carlos Gonzalez, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games and his run of consecutive contests with an RBI to a franchise-record 11.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Jhoulys Chacin (10-10, 3.49 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Nathan Eovaldi (1-1, 2.05).
Chacin posted his career-high 10th win Monday when he limited Houston to one run over seven innings. The 23-year-old has yielded more than three runs once in his last six starts but is only 2-3 during that span. Chacin is 2-1 against Los Angeles this season despite allowing only one earned run over 21 innings and 5-4 with a 1.98 ERA in 10 career meetings. Eovaldi will be making his fifth start this season, his first in the majors. The 21-year-old came away with a no-decision at St. Louis on Monday after surrendering one run in five innings. Eovaldi has allowed five runs over 22 frames in his four career outings.
ABOUT THE DODGERS (62-69): Kemp's walk-off home run accounted for his 100th RBI of the season. He is one away from matching his career high set in 2009. Kemp is only 4-for-23 (.174) lifetime against Chacin but has collected six RBIs. Dee Gordon is slated to begin a rehab assignment with Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday. Gordon has been sidelined since Aug. 10 with a bruised shoulder.
ABOUT THE ROCKIES (63-70): Since returning from the disabled list Aug. 6, Gonzalez has been on a tear, hitting .317 (26-for-82) with nine home runs and 30 RBIs in 20 games. His 30 RBIs are the most in the majors this month. Troy Tulowitzki registered the sixth two-homer game of his career and first this season Saturday. He had four two-homer performances over a 10-game span last September. Tulowitzki's two-hit effort was his 50th of the year, tying New York's Jose Reyes for the National League lead.
FINAL PITCH: The umpires have had their troubles in this series thus far. The start of Friday's game was delayed as the crew was stuck in traffic because of an accident on the 110 Freeway. On Saturday, second base umpire Bob Davidson left the game after three innings because of dehydration as the game time temperature was 97 degrees.
