Chicago @ Seattle preview

T-Mobile Park

Last Meeting ( Aug 26, 2011 ) Chi. White Sox 4, Seattle 2

THE STORY: Utility player Brent Lillibridge is enjoying August almost as much as the Chicago White Sox relish playing the Seattle Mariners. The Emerald City native went deep for the fifth time this month with a two-run shot in the fifth inning to lift the White Sox to a 4-2 road triumph Friday. The victory was Chicago's 14th in 17 outings against Seattle. John Danks will look to continue the trend when he takes the mound Saturday against rookie Michael Pineda of the Mariners, who have dropped seven of their last nine games.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, CSN, ROOT

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH John Danks (5-9, 3.88 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Michael Pineda (9-7, 3.73 ERA).

After a horrid start to the season, Danks has enjoyed a sizzling summer. The 26-year-old Texan lost his first eight decisions before rebounding to post a 5-1 mark with a 2.32 ERA in his last 10 starts. Danks permitted two runs on seven hits in seven innings against the Texas Rangers, but settled for a no-decision last Saturday. He improved to 5-4 in his career versus Seattle after yielding one run on seven hits in a 3-1 victory on June 6. Pineda has collected three consecutive no-decisions. In his last outing, the rookie yielded three runs on six hits in six innings in an 8-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Pineda pitched well in his lone outing against the White Sox, but suffered the loss June 6. He allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings.

ABOUT THE MARINERS (56-74): Third baseman Kyle Seager had a double Friday to continue his hot hitting. The rookie has 13 hits in his last 21 at-bats. Ichiro Suzuki extended his hitting streak to nine after going 2-for-5. The Japanese star is tied on the team with Franklin Gutierrez with eight career hits versus Danks. Miguel Olivo belted a solo homer Friday and has gone deep in his last two games against the White Sox. He's 4-for-16 in his career with a homer versus Danks. Mike Carp has collected 29 RBIs in his last 34 games since being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.

ABOUT THE WHITE SOX (64-65): While still one game under .500, Ozzie Guillen's club is hanging around in the American League Central. Sure, the White Sox sit seven back of the division-leading Detroit Tigers, but they can make some hay after this three-game set versus the Mariners when they play 14 consecutive contests against AL Central opponents. Juan Pierre had a pair of hits Friday to extend his hitting streak to seven. He has hit safely in all but two games in August. Pierre went 1-for-2 in his previous outing against Pineda. Chris Sale retired the side in the ninth for his fifth save. Guillen elected to go with Sale over Sergio Santos, because lefties Ichiro, Dustin Ackley and Carp were batting first, third and fourth in the inning.

FINAL PITCH: Chicago is expected to recall outfielder Dayan Viciedo from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Saturday's game and place All-Star Carlos Quintin on the disabled list. Viciedo has heated up in August, belting four homers and collecting 10 RBIs during a 10-game stretch. Quintin has been sidelined since spraining the AC joint in his left shoulder Saturday.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
