PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Wade LeBlanc (2-3, 5.02 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Ted Lilly (8-13, 4.43 ERA).
LeBlanc allowed five runs - four earned - over four innings at Arizona on Friday en route to his first loss in six starts. It marked the first time in eight starts this season the 27-year old yielded more than three runs. LeBlanc is 1-4 with a 5.06 ERA in six career outings against Los Angeles.
Lilly continued his recent surge Friday, limiting Colorado to one run and three hits over seven innings en route to his first victory in five starts. The veteran lefthander has allowed three runs or less in each of his last six outings but is just 2-3 over that span. Lilly is 8-4 in 15 career meetings with San Diego, including a 2-1 mark in three starts this year.
ABOUT THE DODGERS (64-70): Los Angeles drew 12 walks Tuesday, its highest total since receiving 14 on April 21, 1999 against Atlanta. Andre Ethier has posted back-to-back, three-hit performances since missing Sunday's game with a bad knee. He played a major role in the Dodgers' eight-run second inning Tuesday, beginning the rally with a leadoff single and capping it with his third career grand slam. Matt Kemp is just 1-for-10 lifetime against LeBlanc while James Loney is hitless in eight career at-bats. Dee Gordon, who completed his rehab assignment with Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday, is expected to return to the lineup Thursday.
ABOUT THE PADRES (60-76): The MRI performed on Cameron Maybin's right wrist showed no structural damage. The outfielder has missed four games with the injury but possibly could return over the weekend. Outfielder Blake Tekotte was recalled from Double-A San Antonio. Tekotte, who struck out as a pinch-hitter Tuesday, went 6-for-33 (.182) with one RBI in 18 games with the Padres earlier this season. Nick Hundley has had no success against Lilly over his career, going 1-for-15 with nine strikeouts.
FINAL PITCH: San Diego's Tim Stauffer established a franchise record for most walks in an inning by issuing six in the second frame Tuesday. It eclipsed the previous mark of five set by Juan Eichelberger on Aug. 29, 1981 in the second inning against St. Louis. It also was the most walks in an inning in the majors since Baltimore's Daniel Cabrera's six against Boston on April 7, 2006.
