THE STORY: The White Sox rule the South Side of Chicago year-round, but they can declare themselves the kings of the North Side with a win Sunday as they go for a three-game sweep of the crosstown rival Cubs at Wrigley Field. The White Sox have won the first two games by a combined three runs, rallying for a 6-4 victory in the opener and winning 1-0 on Saturday. The White Sox have won 15 of the past 20 meetings.
TV: 2:20 p.m. ET, WGN, CSN
PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Gavin Floyd (6-7, 4.19 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Rodrigo Lopez (0-2, 5.40). Floyd closed a rough June with a solid start Tuesday at Colorado, holding the Rockies to two runs over seven innings, but he didn't factor in the decision in a 3-2 loss. He hasn't won since June 1 at Boston. In three starts against the Cubs, Floyd is 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA. Lopez has been used primarily as a reliever since the Cubs acquired him from Atlanta on May 26. He has made nine relief appearances and two starts, including Tuesday against San Francisco when he allowed four runs (one earned) in 4 2/3 innings of a 6-3 loss. Lopez has faced the White Sox nine times (five starts) with a 2-2 record and an 8.04 ERA.
ABOUT THE WHITE SOX (42-42): With Saturday's win, the White Sox moved back to .500 for the first time since they were 7-7 on April 16, completing their dig out from a low point of 11 games below the break-even mark. Juan Pierre was the hitting hero again Saturday, delivering the go-ahead hit for the third consecutive game to give the White Sox their fourth win in five games and their ninth in their last 13.
ABOUT THE CUBS (34-50): The Cubs got center fielder Marlon Byrd back from the disabled list Saturday - he had been out since being hit in the face by a pitch from Boston's Alfredo Aceves on May 21 - but it did little to spark the offense. Byrd went 0-for-3 and the Cubs were shut out for the sixth time this season. The Cubs are trying to avoid being swept in a three-game series for the fourth time since the last week of May.
FINAL PITCH: Tuesday marked only the third time in Floyd's career he made a start, and did not record the strikeout. The others were in 2008 against the Mariners and Sept. 20, 2010, when he left a start against the Athletics after only seven pitches with tightness in his shoulder.
