Philadelphia @ Florida preview
Sun Life Stadium
Last Meeting ( Jul 5, 2011 ) Philadelphia 14, Florida 2
THE STORY: Whether it's a nail-biter or a laugher, the Philadelphia Phillies continue to have the Florida Marlins' number. Charlie Manuel's club scratched out a 1-0 victory in the series opener Monday before cruising to a 14-2 rout Tuesday. The Phillies, who have defeated the Marlins seven straight times and 21 of 25 in Miami, will vie for the series sweep Wednesday as Kyle Kendrick takes the hill. Anibal Sanchez will provide the opposition for the Marlins, who have dropped 14 of their last 16 at home.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Kyle Kendrick (4-4, 3.81 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Anibal Sanchez (6-2, 3.30).
Like most Phillies, Kendrick has enjoyed success against the Marlins. The 26-year-old Houston native is 6-2 against Florida, including an impressive victory June 15 when he allowed one run on five hits and struck out five in an 8-1 triumph. In his last outing, Kendrick yielded six runs on eight hits in seven innings, but the Phillies bailed him out by rallying for a 7-6 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. After three solid outings resulted in a trio of no-decisions, Sanchez was blitzed for seven runs on as many hits in his last start. The 27-year-old Venezuelan exited after 3 2/3 innings as the Texas Rangers slugged their way to a 15-5 victory on Friday. Sanchez has traditionally struggled against the Phillies, posting a 3-7 career mark with a gaudy 5.35 ERA. He did fare well June 15, allowing only two runs on four hits over seven innings en route to a no-decision in the second game of a day-night doubleheader.
ABOUT THE PHILLIES (55-32): Philadelphia recorded season highs in both runs (14) and hits (18) on Tuesday as every position player in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit. Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins collected four hits apiece, and Howard and Raul Ibanez both belted two-run homers and recorded four RBIs in the onslaught. Howard is 8-for-25 with two homers and nine walks in his career against Sanchez. The Phillies won without All-Star third baseman Placido Polanco, who was nursing a chronically sore back. Outfielder Shane Victorino, who is on the "Final Vote" for the Midsummer Classic, was diagnosed with a Grade 1 sprain of his right thumb. Michael Martinez played in his place and had a bases-clearing triple.
ABOUT THE MARLINS (38-48): Florida acquired veteran outfielder Mike Cameron from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named along with cash considerations. Cameron, 38, was designated for assignment last week by the Red Sox. John Buck's two-run homer in the fourth inning was the lone highlight for the Marlins on Tuesday. Mike Stanton, who had two hits and has hit safely in five of his last six games, is 2-for-8 in his career against Kendrick.
FINAL PITCH: Philadelphia closer Ryan Madson threw a bullpen session Tuesday for the first time in three weeks. Madson, who is nursing a hand injury, is expected to throw another Thursday before likely starting a minor league rehab assignment.
