THE STORY: The New York Mets hope they still have some offensive punch when they meet the host Texas Rangers in the finale of their three-game series Sunday. A win on Sunday will push New York to 5-1-1 in its last seven series. Despite the loss, Texas is 19-6 in its last 25 interleague games overall and 8-3 in the last 11 at home.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Dillon Gee (7-1, 3.21 ERA) vs. Rangers LH Derek Holland (6-2, 4.69). After setting a franchise rookie record with seven straight wins to begin a season, Gee had the streak snapped Tuesday as he yielded four runs and walked a career-high six over four innings in a loss to Oakland. The 25-year old had issued six walks in 32 innings over his previous five outings. Gee is 3-0 with a rain-shortened complete game in five road starts this year. Holland is coming off a victory over Houston in which he allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings. With the triumph, he improved to 3-0 at home this season despite a 6.10 ERA in seven starts. Holland is 3-1 in his last five outings following a string of six straight no-decisions.
ABOUT THE RANGERS (41-37): Josh Hamilton's streak of 18 consecutive home interleague contests with a hit came to an end as the reigning American League MVP went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts. Hamilton has been abysmal in day games this year, going 6-for-53 (.113) with 21 strikeouts. Shortstop Elvis Andrus sat out Saturday's game and is expected to do the same Sunday because of a sprained left wrist he suffered while stealing a base in the fourth inning Friday. Michael Young extended his hitting streak to 11 games with three hits Saturday, including his third homer in four contests. Third baseman Adrian Beltre has homered in consecutive games after belting one in his previous 14.
ABOUT THE METS (38-39): New York tied its season high for hits in a game and erupted for eight runs in the sixth, its biggest output in an inning this year. Shortstop Jose Reyes recorded two singles for his major league-leading 38th multi-hit game. He also scored twice to push his National League-leading total to 58 runs. Center fielder Carlos Beltran's two-run triple in the first inning was the Mets' major league-high 24th of the season. A pair of steals Saturday gave New York 76 on the year, tops in the NL.
FINAL PITCH: Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez is tied with Todd Jones for fifth on the all-time list with 35 career interleague saves. He also has reached the 20-save plateau for the seventh time in his career, the third-highest total among active pitchers.
