Toronto @ New York preview

Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 28, 2012 ) Toronto 1, NY Yankees 2

New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia has been among the more durable pitchers in baseball during his career, but two trips to the disabled list this season have not thrown the burly left-hander off his game. Sabathia will make his second start since coming off the DL and has the luxury of facing one of his favorite opponents when the Yankees host the Toronto Blue Jays in the rubber game of their three-game set. Sabathia has gone 8-0 in nine starts against Toronto in the past five seasons.

The Blue Jays have been ravaged by a string of injuries and absorbed another setback Tuesday when they learned star slugger Jose Bautista will undergo season-ending wrist surgery next week. Bautista, who led the majors in homers the past two years and had hit 27 when he was hurt in mid-July, is expected to recover in three to four months. Toronto has lost eight of nine and has been held to three runs or fewer in nine of its last 11.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, RSN (Toronto), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays LH J.A. Happ (9-10, 4.68 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (13-3, 3.44)

Although he did not factor in the decision last time out, Happ turned in his best performance since joining Toronto, holding Detroit to one run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings. It was the second straight superb outing for Happ, who has surrendered only two runs on six hits in 13 1/3 innings in that span. He beat the Yankees on Aug. 12 despite allowing two homers and four runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Despite 16 days between starts, Sabathia was outstanding his last time out, striking out nine and limiting Cleveland to one run on four hits in 7 1/3 innings. He has won three consecutive starts and is 6-0 since a loss to Tampa Bay on June 7. Sabathia maintained his dominance over the Blue Jays by blanking them on four hits over six innings on July 17 at Yankee Stadium to improve to 13-3 against Toronto.

WALK-OFFS

1. Since being elevated to the No. 2 spot in the batting order on Aug. 8, Yankees RF Nick Swisher has 21 RBIs in 20 games.

2. The Blue Jays are 12-26 since Bautista went on the DL in July.

3. RHP Marcus Stroman, Toronto's first-round pick in the June draft, was suspended 50 games for using a banned stimulant.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
