Chicago @ Kansas City preview

Kauffman Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 18, 2012 ) Chi. White Sox 4, Kansas City 9

The Kansas City Royals spoiled Adam Dunn’s milestone night Saturday and look to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Chicago White Sox in Sunday’s finale of the three-game series. Adam Dunn became the 50th player in major-league history to reach 400 career homers in Saturday’s contest but Mike Moustakas (four) and Billy Butler (three) combined for seven RBIs for the Royals. Dunn leads the majors with 35 homers this season.

The White Sox have a 1 1/2-game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. Chicago’s Paul Konerko has homered in both games of the series in his return from a concussion that sidelined him for nine days. Konerko has 41 career homers against Kansas City. The Royals have won four of five games. Moustakas homered in Saturday’s victory and has two homers in six at-bats against White Sox starter Jose Quintana. Kansas City outfielder Jeff Francoeur is 4-for-5 with a homer against Quintana. Chicago was sloppy defensively with a season-worst four errors after entering Saturday’s contest with only 53 miscues.

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Jose Quintana (5-2, 2.77 ERA) vs. Royals RH Jeremy Guthrie (5-12, 5.75)

Quintana defeated Toronto in his last start to notch his first victory since July 5. He allowed two runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings while beating the Blue Jays. Quintana lost to Kansas City on Aug. 8 despite allowing only two runs and five hits in seven innings. The rookie is 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in two starts against the Royals.

Guthrie hasn’t allowed a run in 15 innings while winning back-to-back starts. He blanked the White Sox on five hits over eight innings Aug. 8 and followed that up with seven innings of three-hit shutout ball while beating the Oakland Athletics. Guthrie gave up 14 runs in his first three starts after joining the Royals before his two splendid outings. He is 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA in 13 career appearances (11 starts) against Chicago.

2. Royals 2B Chris Getz underwent season-ending surgery on his left thumb Saturday, one day after suffering the injury.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
