The St. Louis Cardinals try to inch closer to a playoff spot Saturday when they host the Milwaukee Brewers in the middle game of their three-game series. St. Louis captured the opener on Friday to move within 3 1/2 games of Pittsburgh for the second wild-card spot in the National League. The victory also marked the beginning of a stretch of 16 of 19 games at home.
Milwaukee had its three-game winning streak snapped as it lost for the 10th time in 14 contests. The Brewers have lost seven games in a row on the road, last winning away from home on July 8 at Houston. The club was held to three runs Friday after scoring six or more in eight of its previous 10 contests.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Mark Rogers (0-0, 3.18 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Adam Wainwright (8-10, 4.24)
Rogers will be making his second start of the season and the fourth of his career. The 26-year-old made his season debut against Washington on Sunday, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings but settling for a no-decision. Rogers yielded two runs over 10 frames in four games - two starts - with Milwaukee in 2010.
Wainwright is coming off a no-decision at Chicago on Sunday in which he allowed two runs in six innings. The former All-Star has surrendered three earned runs or less in eight of his last 10 outings but is just 4-4 over that span. Wainwright fell to 7-6 lifetime against the Brewers on July 18, when he gave up four runs - one earned - in seven frames at Milwaukee.

1. Milwaukee LHP Manny Parra is likely to miss the entire three-game series with left shoulder impingement.
2. Cardinals LF Matt Holliday has reached base via hit or walk in 29 consecutive games.
