Colorado @ San Diego preview

Petco Park

Last Meeting ( Jul 21, 2012 ) Colorado 8, San Diego 6

The San Diego Padres attempt to win their third straight series Sunday when they host the Colorado Rockies in the finale of their three-game set. San Diego took two of three from the Dodgers in Los Angeles and three of four at home against Houston before capturing the opener of this series. Colorado posted a 12-inning triumph on Saturday to snap both the Padres' four-game winning streak and its own three-game skid.

Jordan Pacheco and Michael Cuddyer starred for the Rockies as they won for just the second time in seven contests. Pacheco drove in a career-high four runs and Cuddyer collected four hits and scored three runs, with Pacheco plating Cuddyer with a single in the 12th to snap a 6-6 tie. The Rockies, who are hoping to avoid their third straight series loss, are 1-10-1 in series since winning two of three at home against Los Angeles from June 1-3.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies LH Christian Friedrich (5-7, 5.85 ERA) vs. Padres RH Ross Ohlendorf (3-0, 5.87)

Friedrich has lost six of his last seven decisions, including a setback against Pittsburgh on Tuesday in which he surrendered five runs over 4 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old rookie, who is 3-3 in seven road outings, will be making his third start against San Diego. Friedrich posted a victory at Petco Park in his major-league debut on May 9 and settled for a no-decision at home on June 30.

Ohlendorf will be making his fourth start of the season. He recorded his first win of the year as a starter on Tuesday, limiting Houston to one unearned run and six hits over six innings. The 29-year-old is 1-1 with a 5.75 ERA in five career starts against the Rockies. Ohlendorf last faced Colorado while with Pittsburgh on April 8, 2011, when he yielded three runs in 2 2/3 innings before pulling himself with discomfort in his shoulder.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Diego CF Cameron Maybin was kept out of the starting lineup for the fourth straight game but entered as a pinch runner Saturday and scored before remaining in the contest and going 0-for-1.

2. Newly acquired LHP Jonathan Sanchez is expected to start for the Rockies at Arizona on Monday.

3. Padres SS Everth Cabrera, who recorded three hits, extended his club-record streak of consecutive successful steals to start a season to 18 on Saturday.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
