Miami @ Milwaukee preview

American Family Field

Last Meeting ( Sep 25, 2011 ) Florida 5, Milwaukee 9

Zack Greinke will try to keep his unblemished record at home intact when Milwaukee hosts the Miami Marlins in the first of a four-game series. He might be extra motivated after being left off the National League All-Star team, which was announced Sunday.

Greinke is 15-0 with a 2.47 ERA at Miller Park, and the Brewers have won 20 of his 21 starts there. He is the fourth pitcher since 1900 to win his first 15 home decisions with a team. Greinke, who held opponents to a .203 average in June, hasn’t pitched at Miller Park since June 6, when he recorded seven shutout innings and struck out a season-high 12 in an 8-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Miami enters on a four-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of Philadelphia. Milwaukee has won two straight, including a 2-1 victory over Arizona on Sunday when pinch-runner Carlos Gomez raced home on two throwing errors after he stole second base in the bottom of the ninth inning.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Miami), FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Marlins RH Carlos Zambrano (4-6, 3.71 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Zack Greinke (9-2, 2.82 ERA)

Zambrano is 0-3 in his last four starts, including a 5-2 loss against St. Louis on Tuesday when he allowed five runs (none earned), seven hits and walked five in 6 2/3 innings. He is 13-10 with a 3.81 ERA in 34 appearances (31 starts) against the Brewers. The Milwaukee roster is hitting .271 against him with Ryan Braun 11-for-43 (homer, 14 strikeouts) and Corey Hart 10-for-36 (10 strikeouts).

Greinke is 4-0 in his last six starts overall, including an 8-4 victory at Cincinnati on Wednesday when he allowed two runs and five hits in six innings. His previous outing was a three-hit shutout at the Chicago White Sox on June 22. Greinke is 2-0 in four games (three starts) against Miami. The Marlins’ roster is hitting .286 against him, with Logan Morrison 4-for-4, with a double, two walks and two RBIs.

WALK-OFFS:

1. Miami’s Giancarlo Stanton, who hit his 19th home run Sunday, was named to the National League All-Star team. National League MVP Ryan Braun is Milwaukee’s lone representative.

2. Miami’s Hanley Ramirez homered Sunday for the first time in 89 at-bats.

3. Kenny Rogers won his first 15 home decisions with the Athletics from 1998-99, the Yankees’ Johnny Allen won 16 in a row from 1932-33 and the White Sox’ LaMarr Hoyt won 16 straight from 1980-82.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
