Chicago @ New York preview

Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Jun 29, 2012 ) Chi. White Sox 14, NY Yankees 7

The New York Yankees caught a glimpse of life without ace CC Sabathia - and it was not a pretty sight. With Sabathia missing the first of two starts due to a groin injury, the Yankees watched rookie replacement Adam Warren get mauled in his major league debut as the Chicago White Sox belted four homers and collected 19 hits to win 14-7. With Warren lasting only 2 1/3 innings and three relievers unable to stop the assault, outfielder Dewayne Wise got the final two outs for New York.

In beating the Yankees for the second straight night, Chicago extended its winning streak to four games and opened a 3 1/2-game lead over Cleveland atop the American League Central. A.J. Pierzynski homered twice and Paul Konerko and Alexei Ramirez (four hits) each went deep for the White Sox. Curtis Granderson ended a 10-game homerless drought with his 22nd blast and Andruw Jones and Jayson Nix each drove in a pair of runs for the Yankees.

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Jake Peavy (6-4, 2.84 ERA) at Yankees RH Hiroki Kiroda (7-7, 3.40)

Peavy has lost three straight starts and is winless in his last five despite allowing a total of 11 runs in that stretch. The White Sox have scored only two runs in Peavy's last three outings, including a 4-1 loss at Minnesota on Monday. Peavy has lost all three of his career starts against the Yankees, posting a 3.71 ERA. Raul Ibanez is 5-for-13 with a homer and five RBIs against him.

After some early-season wobbles, Kuroda has started to put it together for the Yankees. He is 4-1 in his last six starts and limited the Cleveland Indians to one run on right hits in his last outing. Kuroda's ability to keep the ball in the park has been a key to his success. He has surrendered only two homers in his last six starts after yielding six blasts in his previous three outings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees captain Derek Jeter moved past Cal Ripken Jr. into 13th place with his 3,185 hit Friday night.

2. White Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis expects to be back in the lineup Saturday after leaving Friday's game with an upset stomach.

3. The Yankees need a victory Saturday for their first 20-win month since August 2009.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
