Cleveland @ New York preview

Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Jun 25, 2012 ) Cleveland 1, NY Yankees 7

The New York Yankees have started another winning streak and appear poised to carry it to double figures again. After enduring a three-game slide on the heels of a 10-game winning streak, the Yankees have fixed whatever it was that went wrong in those three games - getting strong starts and a slew of home runs. The Cleveland Indians are trending in the opposite direction with three consecutive setbacks highlighted by a lack of offense.

The Indians have been outscored 22-3 in their last three games and have six contests remaining on a 10-game trip. The slide has pushed Cleveland behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. New York is having no problems at the plate and is even getting contributions from seldom-used players like Dewayne Wise, who homered in a rare start on Monday. Robinson Cano, who hit his 17th home run on Monday, has gone deep in six of the last eight games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Justin Masterson (4-6, 3.98 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Phil Hughes (7-6, 4.94 ERA)

Masterson has been dominant lately, allowing a total of one earned run in his last three starts. The right-hander tossed a complete game against Cincinnati last week, yielding an unearned run on three hits while striking out nine. Masterson has had some success against the Yankees, owning a 2-2 record with a 2.76 ERA in eight games - four starts.

Hughes is coming off a tough outing against the Atlanta Braves last week, in which he surrendered six runs on six hits - including four home runs - in 4 1/3 innings to snap a three-start winning streak. The right-hander, who turned 26 on Sunday, had allowed two earned runs or less in six of his previous seven starts. Hughes has made four career starts against Cleveland, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.52 ERA.

WALK-OFFS:

1. Yankees C Russell Martin (back) and 3B Alex Rodriguez (rest) were out of the starting lineup on Monday, but are expected to play Tuesday.

2. Indians 2B Jason Kipnis has one extra-base hit and two RBIs in his last 12 games.

3. New York captain Derek Jeter will celebrate his 38th birthday on Tuesday.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
