San Francisco @ Miami preview

Marlins Park

Last Meeting ( Jun 30, 2015 ) San Francisco 3, Miami 5

After making history in the series opener, Dee Gordon looks to extend his hitting streak to 12 games when the Miami Marlins continue their three-game set against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. The speedy Gordon is 17-for-49 (.347) during his stellar run, highlighted by recording the first inside-the-park homer at Marlins Park in his team's 5-3 triumph on Tuesday.

The offensive outburst was certainly welcome for Miami, which won for the third time in 12 contests while mustering just 11 runs during a 1-6 stretch prior to Wednesday's victory. San Francisco had been no stranger to lighting up the scoreboard prior to falling the series opener, having erupted for 38 runs to emerge victorious in four of its previous five. Buster Posey homered among his two hits on Tuesday to improve to 11-for-24 (.458) with 13 RBIs and eight runs scored during his six-game hitting streak. Posey, however, is just 2-for-9 in his career versus Wednesday starter Dan Haren.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Chris Heston (8-5, 3.73 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Dan Haren (6-5, 3.38)

Heston improved to 2-1 since tossing a no-hitter against the New York Mets after allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings versus San Diego on Thursday. The 27-year-old has posted a 5-1 mark away from AT&T Park despite recording a 4.43 ERA. Heston has yet to allow a home run since being blitzed for three in a 10-8 victory over Colorado on May 23.

Reportedly the subject of trade talks, Haren suffered his third straight loss on Thursday after yielding four runs on seven hits in six innings of a 5-1 setback to St. Louis. The 34-year-old last tasted victory on June 3 versus the Chicago Cubs, and looks to record his second win over San Francisco this season. Haren improved to 7-6 in his career versus the Giants after yielding two runs in seven innings of a 7-2 triumph on May 7.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Francisco veteran Matt Cain (flexor tendon) is scheduled to make his season debut on Thursday while fellow RHP Jake Peavy (back) will get the start on Friday, manager Bruce Bochy confirmed.

2. Miami C J.T. Realmuto collected three hits in the series opener and is 7-for-10 in his last three contests.

3. Marlins 1B Michael Morse (back) is expected to rejoin the team on Friday after completing a rehab assignment with Double-A Jacksonville.

PREDICTION: Giants 4, Marlins 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
