Oakland Athletics vs Los Angeles Angels Box Score on Jun 29, 2019

Brett Anderson allowed only two hits in 7 2/3 scoreless innings to lead the Oakland A's to a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Anderson did not allow a runner to reach second base until Luis Rengifo doubled with two out in the eighth, the last batter Anderson faced in the game.

Anderson, who threw 63 of his 100 pitches for strikes, allowed only one other hit in the game -- a single by Andrelton Simmons leading off the fifth. He walked two and struck out three, improving to 8-5.

Anderson's performance came immediately after his worst start of the season, when he gave up seven runs and nine hits in three innings against Tampa Bay last Sunday.

Matt Chapman hit a two-run home run and Josh Phegley had two hits to lead Oakland's offense.

Anderson was sharp early, retiring the first 10 batters he faced. The Angels didn't have a baserunner until Mike Trout walked with one out in the fourth. David Fletcher walked with two out in the sixth but he, like Trout and Simmons before him, didn't get beyond first base.

Angels starter Tyler Skaggs got a double-play grounder to escape a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the fourth inning, but the A's broke through against him in the fifth.

Jurickson Profar began the inning with a walk, and one out later Marcus Semien gave Oakland a 1-0 lead with an RBI double. Having made 91 pitches, Skaggs was removed in favor of Trevor Cahill, a starter-turned reliever.

Cahill, though, saw his first pitch hit for a two-run homer by Chapman for a 3-0 A's lead.

In the seventh, Profar led off with a double and Phegley singled him home to put Oakland up 4-0.

Liam Hendriks relieved Anderson in the eighth and got the final four outs of the game.
